Review - Bring Me Their Hearts by: Sara Wolf

Zera is a Heartless – the immortal, unageing soldier of a witch. Bound to the witch Nightsinger ever since she saved her from the bandits who murdered her family, Zera longs for freedom from the woods they hide in. With her heart in a jar under Nightsinger’s control, she serves the witch unquestioningly.

Until Nightsinger asks Zera for a Prince’s heart in exchange for her own, with one addendum; if she’s discovered infiltrating the court, Nightsinger will destroy her heart rather than see her tortured by the witch-hating nobles.

Crown Prince Lucien d’Malvane hates the royal court as much as it loves him – every tutor too afraid to correct him and every girl jockeying for a place at his darkly handsome side. No one can challenge him – until the arrival of Lady Zera. She’s inelegant, smart-mouthed, carefree, and out for his blood. The Prince’s honor has him quickly aiming for her throat.

So begins a game of cat and mouse between a girl with nothing to lose and a boy who has it all.

Winner takes the loser’s heart.

Literally.

Holy wow of heartlessness.  Bring Me Their Hearts is one of those stories that is well, slightly gruesome, but in the best way. I was instantly pulled into the savageness of this story, and as her “heart” thawed, so did mine.

It’s impossible to hate any of our main characters. All have a role and play it wonderfully. Our protagonist Zera, is easily one to root for. The whole time I was hoping she would have a change of heart... ha, ha! Pun totally intended. Her counterpart, Luc is equally the all around good-prince. He's not one of the brooding, devilish but more of an all around good-guy.

On the side characters, I admit was very suspicious of Fione the whole book. She was one of those characters that you can never tell if you can trust or not. It’s a good feeling to hang on the edge of your seat though. Although one of my favorite characters in the whole book had to be Mal. He's amazing, flirty, and protective all in one and I hope his role continues in the next book.

Finally, I do wish the last chapter was drawn out a bit more. I feel like the story built for a very long time and then the heart-wrenching and shocking ending happened very quickly. This is horrible to say, but I was very happy about the ending and had some suspicions it was coming. Honestly, I cannot wait for the next book and will miss these characters while I wait! My heart will hang in the balance with Zera, Luc, and the rest of the gang.

Title: COUNTERFEIT BOYFRIEND

Author: Cindi Madsen

Genre: Contemporary Romance

About Counterfeit Boyfriend:

My twin brother’s talked me into a lot of crazy things, but taking his place on a road trip with his girlfriend so he can party with his friends is a whole new level of insanity. What’s even more insane is I somehow find myself agreeing to it—thanks, alcohol, guilt, and bribery. I’m determined to undo the arrangement, but then I meet Gwen, this sexy redheaded hurricane of energy and brains. And then she kisses me. Just like that, I’m driving her up the coast, on our way to a wedding with a mess of complications. With each hour and each stop, I’m falling harder and harder for a woman who doesn’t know my actual name. I’m trying to do the right thing. Or the lesser of the wrong things. All my life I’ve had to clean up my brother’s messes, but for the first time ever, I’ve landed the upper hand in one of our switcheroo schemes. Now I’ve just got to come clean and convince Gwen that I’m the brother she should be with.

“I need…” His forehead dropped against the back of my head. “You.”Every nerve ending fired at once, each cell in my body soaring up to celebrate this moment that’d been a long time coming. Now that it was here, I found myself slightly nervous and a lot turned on.
With shaky fingers, I reached up to the side of my dress, gripped the zipper, and tugged until the fabric folded down around my waist. Cool night air hit my skin, but with my internal temperature set to scorching, it hardly mattered.
One slow inch at a time, I pivoted to face Evan. His eyes dipped down, taking in my strapless pink bra, and the carnal gleam in his eye robbed me of what little oxygen I had left. I gripped the sides of the dress and shimmied it the rest of the way down, until it fell in a silky puddle at my feet.
After what seemed like an eternity, but was probably only a couple of seconds, I licked my lips. “Are you gonna say anything?”“Words… they’re…” He swallowed, hard, as his eyes continued to roam over my body. “You’re the one with all the words.”None that seemed adequate, and my heart was seriously going to beat its way out of its cage. “I don’t want to be greedy with them. I’ll let you have a few.”The slightest hint of a smile ghosted across his lips and he took a step closer. “Damn. That pretty much encompasses what I’m thinking.”
I grinned, my nerves making it wobbly.
Evan reached out and dragged a knuckle down the center of my chest, between my breasts, over my bellybutton. Lower, lower, lower…An involuntary whimper came out when he skirted it across the tiny waistband of my thong. The smug twist of his mouth told me he knew exactly how revved up I was.Two could play at that game. I pushed his suit coat off his shoulders, binding his arms. My chest bumped his as I pressed an open-mouth kiss on his neck. He jerked, trying to reach for me, which only tightened the fabric restraints at his elbows.
A growl emanated from his throat as he tugged free, flinging his suit coat aside.
The predatory gleam in his eye sent bursts of heat through my veins. I took a step back and he took a step toward me. When he reached for me, I batted his hand away, denying the touch I desperately needed. “You have to catch up first,” I said, even as my body protested, the ache between my thighs going from dull throb to all-encompassing. “No touching until you’re at least shirtless.”With laser focus, he watched me undo his tie and each button on his shirt. He gave a relieved yet tortured sigh as I parted the fabric and slipped my hands inside, eager to get my fingers on all those tempting muscles and tantalizing skin. I skimmed my hands up his taught abdomen to his firm pecs, taking my time to memorize the feel of them, of that line of his collarbone. Of the tick in his jaw that spoke to how hard he was struggling to hold himself back. Of him.

She sits at her computer every chance she gets, plotting, revising, and falling in love with her characters. Sometimes it makes her a crazy person. Without it, she’d be even crazier. Review - Operation Prom Date by: Cindi Madsen

Kate ships tons of fictional couples, but IRL her OTP is her and Mick, the hot quarterback she’s crushed on since, like, forever. With only one semester left of senior year, it’s now or never if she wants to land him in time for prom. Since she’s flirtationally challenged, she enlists Cooper Callihan, the guy who turned popular seemingly overnight but who used to be a good friend.

Cooper lives and breathes rowing, but his partner just broke his wrist. When he remembers Kate’s good with a set of oars, he strikes a deal: help him train, and he’ll make sure her crush notices her. Only he didn’t know how addicting spending time with her would be. Or how the more successful the Operation is, the more jealousy he experiences.

The mission has been set. The troops have their marching orders. But what if the target is the wrong guy all along?

-----------------------------------------

Swoon-tastic, adorable and delicious! I flew through this book faster than Cooper and Kate could have ever rowed. I mean that in the best way possible. It has been a long time where I was able (and wanted) to not put a book down for a second. I started Operation Prom Date on a Friday night and finished it Sunday afternoon. I adored every second of this adorable romance and I could not ship these characters any harder if I tried.

We start off our story with Kate, who is some-what of a loner and prefers to stick to herself. However, all she wants for her senior year goal is to land her crush for prom. Definitely not the easiest feat when you're shy, your best friend has abandoned you, and your crush is one of the hottest guys in school. However with the help of an old friend, Kate sets out to get exactly what she wants and I couldn't have loved following her more. Especially that she is a math nerd and I'm a math teacher, easy soft spot for our protagonist!

Kate isn't the only star of the show though. I adored Cooper and everything he stands for with his intelligence, blonde locks, and Kanye-scale abs he is everything you ship for in a boy. Then, there's Kate's mom who constantly had me laughing. She reminded me of my mom actually. It makes me so happy when an author can create a character that connects to something you love in your life.

Overall, this contemporary story was everything I look for in a fun, but adorable romance. I loved it from the very beginning up until the very end. If you want an quick, charming story with perfect references, characters, romance, parents, and pets (can't forget the pets) this is definitely a story for you. Cindi effortlessly weaves so many amazing qualities into this story and I cannot wait till her next one!
