Review - Nemesis by: Anna Banks

Princess Sepora of Serubel is the last Forger in all the five kingdoms. The spectorium she creates provides energy for all, but now her father has found a way to weaponize it, and his intentions to incite war force her to flee from his grasp. She escapes across enemy lines into the kingdom of Theoria, but her plans to hide are thwarted when she is captured and placed in the young king's servitude.

Tarik has just taken over rulership of Theoria, and must now face a new plague sweeping through his kingdom and killing his citizens. The last thing he needs is a troublesome servant vying for his attention. But mistress Sepora will not be ignored. When the two finally meet face-to-face, they form an unlikely bond that complicates life in ways neither of them could have imagined.

Sepora's gift could save Tarik's kingdom from the Quiet Plague. But should she trust her growing feelings for her nemesis, or should she hide her gifts at all costs?

Special thanks to the lovely Brooke Reports for this book!

Tension flows through this book like angsty teenagers. Nemesis reminded me of an older magical kingdom just developing into its prime with romance slightly weaved through. I will admit the story start a little slow, but built into a pressure-filled slew of events that I couldn't help but keep turning the pages.

We start off with Sepora, who flees from her kingdom after her father makes it clear he wants to use her powers as a weapon. Along the way she gets thrown into a new kingdom and a new life she isn't sure she wants. I have to admit, Sepora was consistently a little firecracker. She goes after what she wants and what she believes is right and that's admirable. In Nemesis, we get dual POVs which I love and the other side of our story is from Tarik. Tarik, a young prince, who is also thrown into a new life takes a more gentle approach to life. I have to admit I loved watching these two grow together.

My one down note would be that it took about getting into the book about a third of the way before it picked up. I almost didn't keep going, but I'm glad I did because once it picked up I couldn't put it down. On the other side... I adored the Serpens and the large cats and the abilities we get to see along the way. Definitely will be looking forward to the next book in the series!

Review - Invidious by: Bianca Scardoni

The steep descent into Hell is always paved with good intentions.

My name is Jemma Blackburn, and I'm a Slayer. Finding out I wasn't human was only the beginning of my problems. My best-friend, Taylor, is still missing, and so is the Immortal Amulet, and it's my job alone to get them both back. I don't know who I can trust, and I'm still not sure I'm cut out for any of this, but I'm determined to figure it all out, or die trying.

As if that wasn't bad enough, there's a new enemy in town and they've come bearing gifts—an ancient prophesy that is going to blur the very lines between good and evil. And, apparently, my blood is tied to the center of it. I don't have all the answers yet, but I’m getting closer and closer to discovering the truth. The truth about my bloodlines, and about who I really am.

And, believe me when I say, it's going to change everything.

Oh, Invidious! Why do you have to end on a cliff hanger like that? I want to say I knew it.. and I yep, I knew it. Overall, Invidious was a fantastic second installment in this series. This story was a page-turner and moved just as fast as the first book and I loved it.

All of our main characters we've grown to love are back and stronger than ever. I will admit I feel like there was a lot of setting up going on in this one and nothing "huge" happening with any of the characters, minus Dominic. I really liked Dominic's role in this book, and I stand by what I said about the first book... I'm still a Dominic fan to the end.

Towards the end, I will say I felt it was a little rushed. The major ending events almost confused me as some points until I realized what was happening. However, overall, Invidious was a fantastic book of discovery, deception and darkness. Yes, all the D's. I'm super excited to see what comes next in this series!

About Jamie Magee Jamie Magee has always believed that each of us have a defining gift that sets us apart from the rest of the world, she has always envied those who have known from their first breath what their gift was. Not knowing hers, she began a career in the fast paced world of business. Raising a young family, and competing to rise higher in that field would drive some to the point of insanity, but she always found a moment of escape in a passing daydream. Her imagination would take her to places she'd never been, introduce her to people she's never known. Insight, her debuting novel, is a result of that powerful imagination. Today, she is grateful that not knowing what defined her, led her on a path of discovery that would always be a part of her.

Review - Disruption by: Jessica Shirvington

The heart-stopping first chapter in bestselling author Jessica Shirvington's Disruption series.

What if a microchip could identify your perfect match? What if it could be used against you and the ones you love?

Eight years ago, Mercer Corporation's M-Bands became mandatory. An evolution of the smartphone, the bracelets promised an easier life. Instead, they have come to control it. Two years ago, Maggie Stevens watched helplessly as one of the people she loved most was taken from her, shattering her world as she knew it. Now, Maggie is ready. And Quentin Mercer - heir to the M-Corp empire - has become key to Maggie's plan. But as the pieces of her dangerous design fall into place, could Quentin's involvement destroy everything she's fought for? In a world full of broken promises, the ones Maggie must keep could be the most heartbreaking.

Absolutely, positively loved everything about this book. Firstly, Disruption, is based around a world that evolved via technology, secondly our two main characters are determined and exciting to follow, and finally this book was so well written that I could not put it down for one second.

I love how the world of this book is semi-dystopia and yet somehow not. Your life is still controlled and tracked by an "m-band" yet at the same time you still have choices like where you live,  where you go to college, and who you ultimately end up with. It's how I could actually see the world changing into. It is crazy to think that there could be a technology developed that would sense pheromones and tell you how well you match with another person.

It is rare when I read a book where I adore every character that we meet along the way, and whether I wanted to hug them or punch them, I loved every one in this story. Each person had such a vital role, whether it was comic relief, friendship, evilness, or pure determined awesomeness. I absolutely love Maggie and Quentin. Each of our main characters grow from the beginning to end in a couple different ways. Especially Maggie, who is so determined from start to end and she isn't just mentally strong but also physically which I love seeing. I also have to give a shout out to Gus, who throughout the book was constantly making me laugh.

Overall I absolutely and throughly enjoyed this book. If I knew someone in Australia, I'd have them send me the sequel Corruption tomorrow. This book was full of action and I loved every second of it.

Review - No Falling Allowed by: Melissa West

My life just went South…

Twenty-four hours. That’s how long it took my life to flip upside down.

Wake up in bed alone after the best night of my life? Check.

Get fired instead of the promised promotion? Check.

Wealthy parents cut me off when I refuse to follow their path for my life? Check.

Now I’m in Cricket Creek, SC—a place where no New Yorker belongs—disowned and broke, with a new job that I can’t mess up. Oh yeah, and staring at my one-night stand, who happens to be the complete opposite of my type.

Southern.

Cocky.

Bartender.

Noah Hunter never should have made it back to my apartment in NYC, and I definitely shouldn’t be in his small town. But fate had another plan. Or a horrible sense of humor.

Who knew Mr. Wrong could feel so right…

___________________________________________________

No Falling Allowed is fairytale story that effortlessly collides two completely differently lives and I just adored it. The story follows Noah and Grace, who happen to meet by chance in NYC and from there the story just takes off.

I absolutely loved both of our main characters. Grace, who comes from money and is crazy confident has to learn how to grow into her own person. Then on the other side there's Noah who knows exactly who he is and has the biggest heart you'll ever see on a man. Watching these two lives intertwine just made not falling for them (pun intended) impossible.

Overall, No Falling Allowed is a fast-paced, enchanting story that you can't help but loving while you read. I have loved Melissa West's books in the past and this one is no exception. If you are thinking of giving this one a shot, definitely do!
