Review - Sweet Reckoning by: Wendy Higgins

It’s time.

Evil is running rampant and sweet Anna Whitt is its target. Nobody knows when or how the Dukes will strike, but Anna and her Nephilim allies will do anything necessary to rid the earth of the demons and their oppressive ways.

The stakes are higher than ever, and Anna is determined that the love she feels will be her strength, not a liability. But trying to protect the ones she loves while running for her life and battling demonic forces proves to be perilous—especially as faces are changing and trust is fleeting. When the Duke of Lust sends Anna’s great love, Kaidan Rowe, to work against her, Anna must decide how much she’s prepared to risk.

In the most sensual and fast-paced installment yet, Sweet Reckoning brings all the beloved Neph together one last time to fight for their freedom.

________________________________

All the feels! Just all the gosh darn feels. Wendy Higgins, I could not be more proud of the end of this series. Am I sad as heck that it's over, you better believe it but it was absolutely one amazing series. Sweet Reckoning just hits every soft and hard spot in my heart. The perfect ending in every way.

"You're my dream. My only dream."

It's amazing when an author can create a gang and keep them together through out the series. I have grown to love each and every character (mostly the Nephs) that we meet. I adore Blake. I adore Marna and Gin. I adore Kope and Z. I adore Jay and Patti. Mostly though, I adore and have loved Anna and Kaidan. All of these characters have gone through so many fun moments and so many intense moments.

I've said this before but Anna is one my favorite protagonists, ever. She starts off so sweet and so innocent in Sweet Evil then by the end she is a whole new person but still keeping that innocence. Then with Sweet Peril and Sweet Reckoning she grows into a not only a stronger person, but a stronger woman and I couldn't be happier with her character. On her other side, Kaidan Rowe who like Anna easily is on top as one of my favorite book boyfriends. Kaidan is hot, and sexy, and intense, and protective, and so what the kid was dealt a rotten hand and acted on it, but it has made him become one of the best guys in the whole dang world. I still want my own Kaidan and hell, maybe even I'll name a son that! I couldn't be happier with these two characters and where they've ended up. Easily, one of my favorite book couples.

When I read Sweet Evil all that time ago, I remember it instantly becoming a favorite book. I remember the angst I felt when we weren't sure the second book would even make it to publication. Now that I have read the final book in the series, I could not be happier. Easily one of my favorite series overall. Sweet Reckoning is amazing in every way, the writing, the story line, and the characters. Though I'm sad for the journey to be over, my heart could not be happier.

Jennifer Domenico
Jennifer Domenico started writing as a five-year old child in the back of her mother’s bible in church. It was a way to keep the fidgety child quiet but even then she took simple stories and twisted them into even more imaginative tales. As she grew, the stories grew with her and she filled notebook after notebook with her musings.

As an adult, she knew she wanted to be a writer but she lacked the attention span and inspiration required to produce a full length story. Eventually she put away her notebooks and turned her attention to the business world where she toiled away for many years.

She stopped reading fiction, stopped entertaining her outlandish imagination, and stopped dreaming of being a writer. Until one day, many months ago she went to sleep and a beautiful love story played out in her dreams.

When she awoke she felt compelled to write it down. And she wrote and she wrote, for days and days she wrote. The result is part one of Enzo and Ava’s story. Turn Towards the Sun is her first, but certainly not her last, novel.

Ms. Domenico lives in Phoenix, Arizona with her very Italian husband, a dog that adores her, two cats that tolerate her, and wicked sweet tooth. She is currently working on part two in the series.

CBC Author Spotlight: Rachael Wade

Fear is sabotage’s sweetest weapon.

Kate has no time for meaningless romantic charades, and definitely no time for hot college professors who are full of themselves and smitten with her. Constantly battling eviction notices, tuition she can’t afford, and a sick, dependent mother, the last thing she needs is to be distracted with someone else’s complicated baggage.

When she stumbles into Ryan Campbell’s creative writing class, he is only “Mr. Campbell” to her, until Ryan finds himself captivated by her writing and she is forced to face their mutual attraction. His cocky know-it-all syndrome is enough to send her running in the other direction, and his posse of female admirers and playboy reputation are enough to squander any odds in her favor.

But underneath Ryan’s abrasive facade is something to behold, and she can’t stay away for long. Ryan and Kate must decide who they’re willing to become and fight against their former selves if they want to make things work. That’s if academia, vicious vixens, old skeletons, and their own mastery at self-destruction don’t pummel their efforts first.

******************

A sequel to the Amazon bestselling romance, Preservation, told from Ryan’s point of view.

Old Habits Die Hard.

Ryan Campbell is not only leaving his title of Professor behind to move on to bigger and better things at Simon and Warden Publishing, he’s also become Seattle’s rising literary star. Sitting on the overwhelming cusp of newfound fame, he learns soon enough that being popular has its downside.

Attracted to the buzz surrounding his new career, former lovers begin to creep back into his life, and potential ones emerge with enticing advances. While he works to juggle reserved, yet stressful, wedding plans with Kate and his new public image, he has enough to manage without worrying about Carter and Dean—Kate’s loveable albeit eccentric friends—and their latest shenanigans.

Surrounded by a lifestyle that includes temptation at every turn, Ryan finds himself immersed in a world full of scandal and lies, where his oldest weaknesses thrive and his ghosts return to haunt him. Questioning whether his life with Kate is his best path, he must discover if he’s still capable of being the man he aspired to be when she first became his, or if happily ever after is only an illusion.

 ******************

Featuring characters from Love and Relativity.

Carter Montgomery spent most of his life blending in, and he liked it that way. It was always better to be seen, not heard. And while a theatric streak and friendly demeanor might have fooled most people, he knew the truth—he was the shy one. The quiet kid most people forgot about. Some might have considered that a bad thing, but those people all wanted to be in the spotlight.

The only place Carter didn’t mind attention was on stage, with The Hellions. Once content in his comfort zone in Seattle, Washington, he only knew three things: confrontation was to be avoided, keeping the peace was priority, and the moment he lost Kate Parker to Professor Ryan Campbell, he had no clue what to do with his life. Playing gigs, working at Pike Place Market, and watching BBC after the love of his life sailed off into the sunset just wasn’t going to cut it anymore.

Desperate to escape his rut, he takes a cue from Kate and chooses a random place to relocate—a small island across the country, where no one knows his name and memories of unrequited love aren’t found at every turn. Just when he thinks he’s found the perfect place to unwind and sink back into the shadows, in bursts Whitney Sinclair, a saucy firecracker who loves life and refuses to settle for second best. Full of contagious energy, she dares him to be brave, convincing him that it might finally be time to tell the world what he wants.

It might be time to make a declaration.

A Preservation Series Companion Novel

Love, life, and happily ever after? It’s all relative.

Marine biology student Emma Pierce lives in paradise—geographically speaking, anyway. Stranded on Sanibel Island, Florida, she works at a nursing home by day and spends her nights dodging the island's infamous bad boy, Jackson Taylor, at her favorite karaoke bar. Trying to heal from the loss of her sister and a failed relationship she rerouted her life for, she's ready to graduate and finally leave Florida behind.

When a run-in with Jackson and his rowdy crew goes sour at the bar one night, sparks fly and irreversible damage is done. It’s no secret that Jackson loves to get underneath her skin, but this time he's gone too far. Now all he wants is to earn her forgiveness before she's gone for good, but their ideas of closure—and the future—are enough to keep them worlds apart.

This is a stand-alone title but coordinates with The Preservation Series

*Contains sexually explicit content and mature subject matter, including language and elements of abuse.*

A gritty New Adult drama about a young woman’s self-destructive quest to find purpose, self-worth, and love in a broken world.

My name is Elise Duchamp. I’m twenty-three years old and I’m known as the town whore.

No, not the kind who exchanges sexual favors for money. The other kind. The kind who gives it all away for free, whenever and however she likes. I am that girl. The one everyone whispers about and the one none of the girls seem to like, because all of their boyfriends either want to sleep with me or already have. Promiscuity is my thing—the kind that slowly, violently turns my insides black, but gives me something I need.

All things considered, I’m not completely reckless. I’m safe, and contrary to popular opinion, I do have a heart. I live in a world of careless choices, and with those choices come careless people. I cannot judge them, because I am one of them. I too bow down to the altar of the self-serving. I am not a good friend. I am not and never could be anyone’s girlfriend. I’m convinced any goodness in me shriveled up and died long ago.

But I am a replacement. That is something I know how to be, and this is a story of the lengths I’d go to in order to keep it that way.

Blog Tour + Giveaway: Dwellers of Darkness

Title: Dwellers of Darkness
Author: Stacey Marie Brown
Genre: New Adult fantasy/paranormal romance
Series: Darkness #3
Publication: February 27th, 2014 by Twisted Fairy Publishing

Some days feel like years, but in Ember Brycin’s case just the opposite is true. She had only been in the Otherworld for a day or two when she returned back to the Earth's realm. But it is three years later on Earth. Em is now 22. It would matter if she was human, but she’s not. She is a Dae, part Demon and part Fay, with a little Dark Dweller thrown in to make her even more of a freak.

Seeing Seattle rebuilt only confirms she has been gone three years. For her it was not long ago that the Seattle area was just rubble of concrete and death. All done by her hand.

One thing that hasn’t changed, though, is her undeniable connection to Eli Dragen, who is sexy, gorgeous, and even more volatile and frustrating. But her problems go way past him. The Seelie Queen of the Otherworld still holds Mark, Em’s father, and her friends, Ryan, and Josh as hostages. Em needs to rescue them without, once again, getting caught and being used as a pawn to help the Queen regain possession of Earth. At the same time Ember is in hot water with Lars, the Unseelie King, after breaking her contract with him.

As some secrets have come to light others seem to become even more enigmatic. The only truth Ember knows is,everyone is harboring secrets. As Eli’s past is revealed, Em understands more clearly why he acts the way he does and how much their lives are intertwined. But she also knows Eli is holding something back, something that could change their relationship forever.

Em herself continues to wrestle with her feelings toward Torin and her own secret she’s withholding from Kennedy. As the tension for war mounts between the Seelie and Unseelie (Light and Dark), the tension at the Dark Dweller’s compound mounts even more as they prepare to obtain the sword no matter what the price. But is Ember the answer to the location of the sword? Is she the one to fulfill the prophecy? As usual nothing is ever what it seems.

Stacey Marie Brown by day is an Interior/Set Designer, by night a writer of Paranormal Fantasy, Adventure, and Literary Fiction. She grew up in Northern California, where she ran around on her family’s farm, raising animals, riding horses, playing flashlight tag, and turning hay bales into cool forts. Even before she could write, she was creating stories and making up intricate fantasies. Writing came as easy as breathing. She later turned that passion into acting, living and traveling abroad, and designing. Though she had never stopped writing, moving back to San Francisco seemed to have brought it back to the forefront and this time it would not be ignored.

Review

Not going to lie, I definitely kept reading chunks and stopping instead of doing one straight sitting just so I could make it last a little longer. I was dreading finishing it because I just love this series to pieces! Dwellers of Darkness picks up right where Fire in the Darkness left us and takes off like a rocket.

Ember continues to make me love her as our protagonist. She is beyond stubborn and bad-ass and can dish it as well as she can take it. Plus I'm so happy to see her take charge of her feelings in this one, though I know... I just know there is a secret we have yet to discover that is going to explode in her face and I'm dying to know what that is. I'm hoping she'll be able to right everything with her tough interior and exterior though.

Eli Dragen, mother humping dominant sexy green-eyed hot beast, you. This man is all strength and muscles and protectiveness and I can never get enough of him. I absolutely loved to see that toughness crack slightly towards Ember in this installment, yet at the same time the intenseness just continues to build between him and Ember and I couldn't have loved it more. I know there's more were missing from him, and I can only hope it doesn't destroy anything. ELI FOREVVVER!

It's not just him and Ember I love, though they play the biggest roles.. I love the story. I absolutely adore the world of Fae and Dark Dwellers and all that is light and dark. I love the age range of the story and the romance, and betrayals, and snarky friendships. It's got a little (or maybe a lot) of everything I adore in a book.

The end of the book... man! I wanted to rip the queen in half, know everybody's secrets, slap and kiss Eli at the same time, and scream for the next book. I heart this series so freaken hard. I will definitely not be looking forward to the series coming to an end, however I can only hope for an epic and earth shattering happily ever after. Love this series!!

Seventeen-year-old Riven is as tough as they come. Coming from a world ravaged by a devastating android war, she has to be. There’s no room for softness, no room for emotion, no room for mistakes. A Legion General, she is the right hand of the young Prince of Neospes, a parallel universe to Earth. In Neospes, she has everything: rank, responsibility and respect. But when Prince Cale sends her away to find his long-lost brother, Caden, who has been spirited back to modern day Earth, Riven finds herself in uncharted territory.

Thrown out of her comfort zone but with the mindset of a soldier, Riven has to learn how to be a girl in a realm that is the opposite of what she knows. Riven isn’t prepared for the beauty of a world that is unlike her own in so many ways. Nor is she prepared to feel something more than indifference for the very target she seeks. Caden is nothing like Cale, but he makes something in her come alive, igniting a spark deep down that goes against every cell in her body. For the first time in her life, Riven isn’t sure about her purpose, about her calling. Torn between duty and desire, she must decide whether Caden is simply a target or whether he is something more.

Faced with hideous reanimated Vector soldiers from her own world with agendas of their own, as well as an unexpected reunion with a sister who despises her, it is a race against time to bring Caden back to Neospes. But things aren’t always as they seem, and Riven will have to search for truth. Family betrayals and royal coups are only the tip of the iceberg. Will Riven be able to find the strength to defy her very nature? Or will she become the monstrous soldier she was designed to be?

EXCERPT

---
Chapter One
Empty Bed

The scar burned between my breasts. Would I ever feel whole again? I smoothed my fingers over the fabric of my uniform, where the sunburst blossomed red and pink on my skin. My other hand traced the exotic, inky patterns on the alien man’s face lying on the examination bed beside me. Only he could understand my pain. We’d both been cocooned on that wretched alien ship, waiting to die.
“Lyra, you have to leave him. The ceremony’s in twenty minutes.” Tauren stood with his arms crossed over his broad chest. A forehead worthy of an Old Earth cave man hung over his little, beady eyes as he stared with suspicion. “Don’t you want your medal?”
Behind me, monitors beeped with a steady, abnormally slow heart rate. A line fluctuating on a graph showed unprecedented brain activity. My ward dreamed. What of, I wasn’t sure:  star systems I’d never seen, or maybe his home planet. My fingers traced his shimmery golden skin, soft and smooth except for the calluses on the underside of his palm and the hard ripped abs underneath the sheets--not that I’d peeked. For an alien, he looked more like a demigod or one of those statues of roman warriors from Old Earth.
I brushed back a strand of cobalt hair from his eyes and tucked in the bed sheets. “I don’t care about medals.”
Tauren lurched toward me and grabbed my wrist like I was his toy kite that had drifted too far on the wind. His fingernails dug into my skin. “What do you care about?” His voice was hoarse, his smudge-brown eyes desperate.
My thoughts wandered to the alien man. I hadn’t even spoken to him or learned his name. When I first saw him, wrapped in the arachnids’ cocoon aboard their metallic ship, my emotions ignited. Far from his home, he lay in stasis, trapped until the arachnids drained his body of life. I’d been in the same position until Nova saved me.
I had to save him.

“Ahhh!” I pressed my hands to his chest. “Why are you such an ass?” I couldn’t believe I’d said it, but it felt so good! Then I thought, How does he bring out the worst in me? I was not an angry person, and I didn’t normally shoot out cuss words. Mom and Gamma had taught me better than that.

Unexpectedly, he gripped my wrists, moving them behind me, and drew me into him. My heart heaved in and out from being a breath away from his lips and from being exhausted from all the energy I was releasing. He set his eyes deeply into mine and exhaled. “Everything was just great until you walked into my life. I know who I am and my purpose in life, but you are making me confused. For the first time, I want more. The worst part of this is that I can’t have you, even if you allowed it.” He paused, searching for words. “I want you to ____ me, ‘cause if I knew that you ever cared about me that way, I would give up everything just to be with you. I don’t know why. And that scares me more than anything I’ve ever known. So there is the answer to your question. Satisfied?”

Mary Ting resides in Southern California with her husband and two children. She enjoys oil painting and making jewelry. Writing her first novel, Crossroads Saga, happened by chance. It was a way to grieve the death of her beloved grandmother, and inspired by a dream she once had as a young girl. When she started reading new adult novels, she fell in love with the genre. It was the reason she had to write one-Something Great. Why the pen name, M Clarke? She tours with Magic Johnson Foundation to promote literacy and her children’s chapter book-No Bullies Allowed.
