Knight Assassin by: Rima Jean

Synopsis: Seventeen-year-old Zayn has special powers she cannot control—powers that others fear and covet. Powers that cause the Templar Knights to burn Zayn’s mother at the stake for witchcraft. When a mysterious stranger tempts Zayn to become the first female member of the heretical Assassins, the chance to seek her revenge lures her in. She trains to harness her supernatural strength and agility, and then enters the King of Jerusalem's court in disguise with the assignment to assassinate Guy de Molay, her mother’s condemner. But once there, she discovers Earic Goodwin, the childhood friend who still holds her heart, among the knights—and his ocean-blue eyes don’t miss a thing. Will vengeance be worth the life of the one love she has left?

Thoughts: I'm a little conflicted about this one because when I first started the book I honestly wasn't sure I was going to get all the way through it. I hate to not finish books though, so I push on in hope that they pick up and with Knight Assassin I'm happy to admit it did. Knight Assassin is an interesting book that combines some heavy elements with the fun fantasy aspects.

With the protagonists there were parts I really liked about her and parts I didn't. With the writing I think our main character, Zayn, is supposed to be seventeen, possibly eighteen by the end of the book and I felt as if Zayn's "voice" came off a lot younger which was something that didn't float my boat. That being said, I do like the strength that Zayn shows through out the book. The situations she's thrown in are not only physically hard but emotionally draining as well.

The story at parts confused me, or lost my interests in the beginning but the last third of the book I could not put down. I'm not sure if it was the romance, revenge, or battles that peaked my interest... but I really enjoyed the end of the book and was excited to keep reading. That being said it took me reading at least half of the book to get to that point.

This book definitely mixes a culture you don't get to read about quite too often with fun and fantasy elements, which I liked. I also give props to the author for putting a few heavy conflicts in the book like murder and rape. With that being said, I don't think this book was necessarily a "me" book, but that doesn't mean it isn't amazing for someone else. So, if you're thinking of picking it up, I always say to give a book a try!

Review - Be With Me by: J. Lynn

Teresa Hamilton is having a rough year—she’s in love with her big brother’s best friend, but he hasn’t spoken to her since they shared a truly amazing, mind-blowing, change-your-life kiss. She got out of a terrible relationship. And now an injury is threatening to end her dance career for good. It’s time for Plan B – college. And maybe a chance to convince Jase that what they have together is real.

Jase Winstead has a huge secret that he’s not telling anyone. Especially not his best friend’s incredibly beautiful sister. Even though he and Teresa shared the hottest kiss of his life, he knows that his responsibilities must take priority. He certainly doesn’t have time for a relationship. But it doesn’t help that all he can think about kissing the one girl who could ruin everything for him.

As they’re thrown together more and more, Jase and Tess can’t keep denying their feelings for each other. But a familiar danger looms and tragedy strikes. As the campus recovers, the star-crossed couple must decide what they’re willing to risk to be together, and what they’re willing to lose if they’re not…

There is not one thing that Jennifer L. Armentrout or should I say J. Lynn ever leaves out of her books and I absolutely love every part of it. So much suspense. So much heart ache. Yet, so many perfectly delicious moments. Be With Me is literally such a sweet and thrilling ride.

Teresa Hamilton, Tess for short (which I loved!)... and oh yeah, younger sister of the sexy Cam. She is literally thrown left and right like a rag doll in this one. There were so many times I felt bad for Tess, but I have to commend her for always coming out on top. Then there's Jase... sexy, adorable, and just perfect Jase. I loved him in Wait For You and in Be With Me my heart just swelled with love for him. I loved how he's a family boy, how he's protective, and I love how he's there for Tess no matter how hard he tries to stay away. Just delicious, literally.

This book just gave me everything I wanted, laughs, family, sexy times, suspense, and overall a flawed but hot and perfect romance. I just love this series and the the characters. Jennifer never disappoints me and I absolutely love that about not only her but her stories as well.

Review - Tempted By The Soldier by: Nicolette Day

When one touch isn’t enough, why resist?

Road trips are supposed to be fun. Or, at least, full of hot sex. For photographer Lilly Grayson, the fifteen-hour drive to her friend’s wedding with Nate Jennings will be neither. Not that Nate isn’t sexy—the man is six-foot-three-inches of mouth-watering Marine. But Lilly’s been there, done that…and he walked away. Now it’s time for a little payback. The kind that’ll make a man desperate for a taste of what he can’t have.

And Nate wants a taste—so badly that he can barely keep his hands on the wheel. But the scars and ghosts of his last tour still haunt him. He can’t give into temptation, not this time. Lilly deserves a whole man—one who can love her the way she deserves to be loved, even if she doesn’t believe it can happen. And that can’t be Nate. Not when he’s leaving again in two weeks, and this time, he’s not sure he’ll return…

_______________________________

Nicolette Day, killing it one Brazen book at a time. Seriously loved Tempted By The Soldier. It has sexual tension and hotness through the roof and all of the broken and adoring moments we love to curl up and read about.

"Oh, yeah," she whispered. "Take me home, Soldier Boy."

Lilly Grayson, oh my goodness girl, let me start off by saying she has some of the best, wittiest, back-mouthing comments I have ever read. I was literally laughing out loud so many times when her and Nate would go at it. On top of that not only does she look like me with blonde hair and green eyes, but she loves photography, so I instantly connected with Lilly. I love how she constantly put Nate in his place and yet loved him, too. Then, Mr. Nate Jennings... oh hell. This broken and sexy and protective and caring man. You cannot help but feel sorry for him, want to kick him, and want to jump him all at the same time. I absolutely loved Nate and Lilly together and couldn't have been happier with them.

Overall, Tempted By The Soldier is another Brazen book I couldn't put down and absolutely loved. How can you not love witty gals and their broken sexy fellas? How can you not love seeing old characters you've grown to love? How can you not love deliciously sexy times and a happily ever after? Yep. This book has got it.

Review - Scorched Treachery by: Rebecca Ethington

While Joclyn is trapped in the tormenting hell of Cail’s mind, the battle around her only continues to grow and spread.

Edmund has infiltrated the underground hallways of Prague, guiding the massacre that would end the lives of the last of the great magical race. In her attempts to stop him, Wynifred has been captured and her magic restrained. Chained up in the ancient dungeons of Prague, her fate is left in the hands of her father, who has tried to kill her before. With Ryland’s screams and Sain’s fragmented sights as her only company, Wyn must rely on something that has been hidden deep inside of her for centuries to help them break free.

Ilyan’s whole life has been building up to one purpose. Protect the Silnį»³. He knows what he must do, and he has no doubt in his ability to do so. But when his father’s magic removes Joclyn’s mind from her body, he is left protecting the shell of the one person he loves. Desperate to find a way to break her free of her prison, he makes a choice. And that one choice changes everything.

Now, Ilyan finds himself bound to Joclyn in a way that he never knew to be possible. They say that blood is thicker than water, but Black Water burns, and Ilyan’s heart may not be strong enough to keep it pumping through his veins and give the girl he loves back into his brother’s care. Even if he can, it may not be safe to do so.

____________________________

When I heard the third book was almost a retelling from new point of views, I admit I was a little skeptical, but I had nothing to worry about! Rebecca Ethington totally surprised me with Scorched Treachery. It was like a whole new story and not one we already went through. It completely captured my every attention and I adored the new POVs!

I absolutely loved getting inside of Wyn and Ilyan's heads. Wyn who has had a past locked away, one that is just heartbreaking. I felt so bad for Wyn in Scorched Treachery, yet loved her even more because of it. Then there is Ilyan, who has always kind of been second boy to me... But now I'm not so sure. My heart was so dead set on a Ryland and Joclyn happily ever after, but being inside of Ilyan's head for a book I'm not so sure. He truly does everything for her. He is patient and kind and completely loving.

Overall really enjoyed this switch of POV and thought it really helped the story along. Cannot wait to jump into Soul of Flame though... I need to know what happens now because of how Scorched Treachery left off!

Review - The Winner's Curse by: Marie Rutkoski

Winning what you want may cost you everything you love

As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions.

One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin.

But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.

Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart.

________________________________

This book. I don't even know where to start. It's unlike anything I have read and it's heart breaking, and raw, and beautiful and I loved every second of it. The Winners Curse takes the feeling of an historic era and makes it fresh, new, and bold. It had everything I was looking for and ending just had me hanging on to every word.

"I will let every single Valorian in this city die if it means that you don't."

Sigh. I quoted so many lines from this book while reading but that one above has to be my favorite even though the very end quote gives it a run for it's money. I loved Arin in every way. Arin who knows who he is. Who is beautiful and strong and always knows what he is fighting for. He doesn't betray his people but at the same time he doesn't betray his heart either and I admired him for it.

On the other side, our protagonist Kestrel. First off, I am a huge fan of unique names but this one takes the cake. It's beyond unique, it's lovely and the meaning of her name is just so true to her character. Kestrel is cunning and intelligent yet I love the soft side she falls into when with her piano. It's not always just soft though, she becomes intense. Her character had such a wide range of emotions and I adored watching her fight through them all especially with all the males she has to deal with through out the book.

The last line of The Winner's Curse just broke my heart to pieces and melted it to mush all within five seconds. On top of that, the fact that such an amazing book ended that way just shattered my heart in the best way possible. When I say I cannot wait for the next book, I SO mean it. Waiting a year will definitely not be fun. Do yourself all a favor and pre-order this one. It is outstanding.

Review - Foreplay by: Sophie Jordan

Before she goes after the life she’s always wanted, she’s about to find the one she needs.

Pepper has been hopelessly in love with her best friend’s brother, Hunter, for like ever. He’s the key to everything she’s always craved: security, stability, family. But she needs Hunter to notice her as more than just a friend. Even though she’s kissed exactly one guy, she has just the plan to go from novice to rock star in the bedroom—take a few pointers from someone who knows what he’s doing.

Her college roommates have the perfect teacher in mind. But bartender Reece is nothing like the player Pepper expects. Yes, he’s beyond gorgeous, but he’s also dangerous, deep—with a troubled past. Soon what started as lessons in attraction are turning both their worlds around, and showing just what can happen when you go past foreplay and get to what’s real…

___________________________________

Sophie Jordan, you are a boss. You made the jump of going from YA paranormal to NA contemporary absolutely flawlessly. I cannot get this book out of my head and am suffering major book depression after finishing it. Foreplay is a perfectly crafted contemporary filled with delicious sexiness, angst, and a perfectly entrancing story.

I instantly loved Pepper the second I met her. Yes, maybe she's had a slightly tragic past, but Pepper is one of the good girls. I love the fact that she has a clear goal for herself, that she is inexperienced in the fella department, she's smart and hey, she's pretty too. Then there's Reece oh goodness gracious Reece! Reece is seriously perfect parts sex god and perfect parts the amazingly perfect gentleman (yes the alcohol pun was totally intended). I could not get enough of Reece from the moment we met him and if Pepper did get some sense about the whole Reece/Hunter situation, I was going to kick her.

This book shows you that your life doesn't have to fit into that picture perfect box, no matter how much you want it. Your life will make it's own box, and you shouldn't let it slip away. I promise you this book is all sorts of amazing and Sophie Jordan does not let you down in the slightest. Foreplay has easily become one of my favorite new adult books. Definitely worth a buy, own, and love!
