Blog Tour: Naturals

Naturals by: Tiffany Truitt

Ebook ISBN: 978-1-62061-148-7
Imprint: Entangled Teen

Synopsis: Ripped away from those she loves most, Tess is heartbroken as her small band of travelers reaches the Isolationist camp in the mysterious and barren Middlelands. Desperate to be reunited with James, the forbidden chosen one who stole her heart, she wants nothing to do with the rough Isolationists, who are without allegiance in the war between the Westerners and Easterners. But having their protection, especially for someone as powerful as Tess, may come at a cost.

When James returns, Tess’s world once again feels complete—until she discovers her sister, Louisa, has taken up her old post at Templeton, the dangerous chosen ones training center and the site of Tess’s loss of innocence. Tess will do anything to protect her loved ones—but will the price be more than she can give?

This second book in Tiffany Truitt’s dystopian series is a thought-provoking, thrilling story that asks who the true enemy really is—the chosen ones who are different, or the naturals…who are just like us.

Tiffany Truitt was born in Peoria, Illinois. A self-proclaimed Navy brat, Tiffany spent most of her childhood
living in Virginia, but don’t call her a Southerner. She also spent a few years living in Cuba. Since her time on the island of one McDonalds and Banana Rats (don’t ask), she has been obsessed with traveling. Tiffany recently added China to her list of travels (hello inspiration for a new book).
Besides traveling, Tiffany has always been an avid reader. Tiffany spent most of her high school and college career as a literary snob. She refused to read anything considered “low brow” or outside the “classics.”

Tiffany began teaching middle school in 2006. Her students introduced her to the wide, wonderful world of Young Adult literature. Today, Tiffany embraces popular Young Adult literature and uses it in her classroom. Tiffany is proud to call herself an educator and Young Adult author.

The synopsis definitely gives you a taste of all the high points, but Naturals was so much more than I expected. It was fast-paced, dangerous, with rebel activity constantly going on around you. Absolutely enjoyed the second installment in the series from the opening all the way to the bittersweet ending.

Tess is definitely something. We learn in Chosen Ones that she can definitely be defiant. In Naturals, she's no different. If anything, she fights more against everyone around her and when Tess wants something, you better believe she'll do whatever it takes to get it. She's brave and strong, and constantly no matter how dangerous always fighting for the people she loves.

Two other new characters I must mention that I absolutely loved were McNair and Lockwood. McNair I had to grow to love... but I did. With Lockwood, he was a character I insta-loved. He's one of those friends who is wholesome and honest and some one who always has your back. I loved his character and hope to see a lot more of him in the future.

With romance, it's always an A+ in my book when an author can make me fall and have hopes for more than one boy. In Chosen Ones I was one hundred percent team James. In Naturals, I still ended up being Team James but, Henry is so much more in this book. I absolutely love his constant willingness to protect Tess. How despite everything, he really does love and care for her. I honestly kept wanting them to just jump each other throughout the first half of the book... I just kept waiting for the moment to happen. And though, I won't spoil anything, when James comes in to the picture I was ridiculously happy. James is good from the inside out. I absolutely love everything about that boy. So did I love Henry even more in Naturals, heck yeah and I would like a happily ever after of some sort for him... but overall, I'm a James girl.

The ending of this book is yet another heart-breaking killer and some what of a cliff hanger. But, hey if authors didn't do that do us on occasion we wouldn't feel the emotions we did and we most likely wouldn't love the book as much as we did and hope for more. And, believe me I am hoping for a happily ever after. I wanted to scream at the end of Naturals, but overall I thought it was even better than the first! Definitely worth a read!

There are two!

Naturals by: Tiffany Truitt

Synopsis: Tess is finally safe from the reach of the Council, now that she is living in the Middlelands with the rebel Isolationists. With James having returned to Templeton, she easily falls back into her friendship with Henry, though her newfound knowledge of Robert’s chosen one status still stings. Even surrounded by people, Tess has never felt more alone. So she’s thrilled when James returns to the settlement, demanding to see Tess — until she finds out that it’s because her sister, Louisa, has been recruited into Tess’s old position at Templeton, and that the dangerously sadistic chosen one George has taken an interest in her.

Sweet Peril by: Wendy Higgins

Synopsis: Anna Whitt, the daughter of a guardian angel and a demon, promised herself she’d never do the work of her father—polluting souls. She’d been naive to make such a vow. She’d been naive about a lot of things.

Haunted by demon whisperers, Anna does whatever she can to survive, even if it means embracing her dark side and earning an unwanted reputation as her school’s party girl. Her life has never looked more bleak. And all the while there’s Kaidan Rowe, son of the Duke of Lust, plaguing her heart and mind.

When an unexpected lost message from the angels surfaces, Anna finds herself traveling the globe with Kopano, son of Wrath, in an attempt to gain support of fellow Nephilim and give them hope for the first time. It soon becomes clear that whatever freedoms Anna and the rest of the Neph are hoping to win will not be gained without a fight. Until then, Anna and Kaidan must put aside the issues between them, overcome the steamiest of temptations yet, and face the ultimate question: is loving someone worth risking their life?

Thoughts: I just can't even. My emotions basically want to party all over the east coast because of how much I loved this book. I felt all the emotions that I know Wendy worked so hard to make not just for her character's sins but for us to feel as well. I loved every single sweet bit of Sweet Peril; It's fast-paced, exciting, thrilling, and oh so sexy.

So two characters I absolutely adore: Anna and Blake. Anna I love how she's become so much stronger. That though she's tempted to do "evil" things, but fun things might I add, she remains good at heart through out it all. One of the things I love most about her is her love for Kaidan. She doesn't just brush it off and go "oh, we're not meant to be too bad, so sad". No, she constantly fights for him and I love that about her. Then there's Blake. Blake is one of those characters a story needs. He's so easy-going, carefree, fun, good-looking, and all around just the perfect guy. I absolutely adore every scene with him in it.

Oh Kaidan Rowe. I don't even know where to start. You. Are. Perfect. Truly, he is. Let me just rehash this real quick... he's British, tall, shaggy hair, built, a drummer, blue eyes... Do I need to continue? I think not. On top of that, our brooding bad boy is there but in Sweet Peril we get to see another whole side to Kaidan. One that I absolutely fell in love with. He is definitely in my top five book boyfriends, for sure.

Finally, Wendy Higgins, you beautiful writer, you. Can I just tell you how happy it makes me when an author can make a second book just as amazing at the first? When an author can NOT have the love interest in every other chapter and the book is still brilliant to the point where you can't put it down. When the author makes you feel all the feels along with the characters. Makes you love all those characters. When an author makes your heart break and then puts all the pieces back together and glues them up. I honestly commend Wendy for the amazing story she put together and the absolutely lovely writing.

When I say I'm hanging onto the edge of my seat, will do anything for a sequel... It's an understatement. I absolutely cannot wait to get the final installment. Though I know my heart may burst and I'll be sad the series is ending, I just cannot get enough of this world... and Blake, and Anna, and Kaidan, and every body else. Absolutely loved Sweet Peril!

Book Blitz + Giveaway: Awakened

Awakened by Kriston Johnson
Series: The Legends Of Elyndia, #1
Publication date: April 25th 2013
Genre: YA Fantasy
Links: Goodreads | Amazon

Synopsis: Can fighting for the right side be the wrong thing to do?

Draven, the tyrant ruler of Elyndia for the last one thousand years, searches for the one who can fulfill his prophecy.

The Paladins, an elite band of warriors sworn to protect their way of life at all cost, search for the one with the ability to bring their world crumbling down.

An innocent girl, tormented by demons only she can see, lives on the brink of insanity and longs for a life of peace.

When seventeen-year-old Jade Rosenberg reads from an antique book, she has no idea she just read an incantation awaking her inherited power. But when opposing—and equally terrifying—groups invade her home, she learns she is descended from an enchanted realm and a member of a powerful race thought to have been hunted to extinction.

Ripped from her world, Jade is forced to seek refuge from those who want her dead. She is given one of two options and the time has come for her to make a choice: assassinate their sworn enemy…

Or sacrifice her soul.

Kriston Johnson lives in Southwest Washington with her husband, teenage son, and miniature Australian
Shepherd. Her home rests at the fringe of an old growth forest that she insists is the home of Jason Voorhees. Her husband thinks that’s a ridiculous assumption, because everyone knows it’s really Bigfoot. Every summer Kriston participates in the annual pilgrimage to Faerieworlds, a real life faerie realm here on Earth, and has an unhealthy obsession with Star Wars, The Vampire Diaries, and Iron Man. Awakened is her first novel.

Lifting his blood-drenched shirt to inspect the wound, Jade inhaled a sharp breath. Gabriel’s torso was smeared with blood and covered in a dozen or so randomly shaped scars, some old, some new. His body had seen battle well beyond its young years. Jade ran her finger along a jagged line of puckered skin. Starting above his heart it curved downward, extending to the top of his abdomen. Apart from the scars, his skin was smooth and soft to the touch. It was also ice-cold. His blue eyes popped open and Jade recoiled. Struggling to sit, he clasped her wrist before he passed out again.

Book Blast: Echo

The countdown clock reads ten days until the end of the world. The citizens are organized. Everyone's been notified and assigned a duty. The problem is . . . no one knows for sure how it will end.

Energy-hungry Mages are the most likely culprit. They travel toward a single location from every corner of the continent. Fueled by the two suns, each Mage holds the power of an element: air, earth, fire, metal, water, or ether. They harness their powers to draw energy from the most readily available resource: humans.

Ashara has been assigned to the Ethereal task force, made up of human ether manipulators and directed by Loken, a young man with whom she has a complicated past. Loken and Ashara bond over a common goal: to stop the Mages from occupying their home and gaining more energy than they can contain. But soon, they begin to suspect that the future of the world may depend on Ashara's death.

SNEAK PEEK of ECHO...

A metal plate occupied the wall to the right of the door. Loken pressed his hand to it. The door slid away and disappeared into the left side of the doorway. Loken stepped through and down the stairs on the other side. His footsteps clanged against the metal steps as he descended.

Unlike in the overly bright training room on the other side of the building, dim lights filled this room with shadows. The team clustered at the bottom of the steps, blocking my view. As they shuffled slowly out of the way, I caught sight of what had stopped everyone else in their tracks.

A glass wall separated us from what looked like a large cell. The only entry point into the cell was another thick metal door with a security pad next to it. Behind the glass, three people stood as far away from one another as they could possibly get within the enclosed space: a hugely tall man, a woman with blond hair that hung past her waist, and a smaller man. All three were nude.

They looked human but . . . wrong somehow. Despite their lack of clothing, they made no effort to cover themselves. The larger man’s muscles bulged in odd places. While the woman wasn’t as massive, her body was more toned than any woman I’d ever met, more so than even Elder Ethereal.

From across the room, their black eyes cut through the darkness. A chill raced up and down my back like icy fingertips.

I stared at the smaller man. His eyes bore through me. I wondered if he saw me at all, or if he just happened to be looking where I was standing. At first glance, I’d thought him to be relatively slight. Although the other man dwarfed him, his thin arms were as tight as a predator’s, coiled to strike. The sharp planes of his face only emphasized the eerie black of his eyes, sunken into their sockets.

Loken’s voice startled me from the man’s hypnotic gaze. “In case you haven’t guessed it, these three are—”

“Mages,” I whispered.

The Iron Locket by: Samantha Warren

Synopsis: She was raised to hunt faeries. He was raised from the dead.

Aiofe Callaghan comes from a long line of faery hunters. Hired by one of the faery queens, they protect the human world from chaos and destruction. But when Aiofe stumbles through an open door into the land of Faery, she discovers the job isn't as simple as it seems, nor is she.

Arthur Pendragon spent centuries in blissful nothingness, until the day the four queens banded together to raise him from the dead. Along with his twelve most talented knights, he leads the warring armies of Faery against the greatest enemy they have ever known: one of their own.

Can they overcome their differences to confront the greatest challenges either of them have ever faced?

Thoughts: Let me start off by staying I absolutely love the cover of The Iron Locket. I love the fact that it's green, that Aiofe is there beautiful and strong, and that there's a knight. Overall it's a stunning cover. It definitely drew me in. Also, I absolutely love the concept of anything related to faerie and faerie worlds, so that sucked me in as well. I have to admit it took me some time to get into the story but when it started to pick up, for me it was one exciting adventure.

So I'm kind of ashamed to admit, when I first met Kane I completely was hoping for a Kane + Aiofe shippage. But, alas if you read the book you will laugh at me big time for that. However that being said, I really loved Kane's character. He was actually my favorite. His blonde hair and bright blue eyes, plus he has the whole brooding betrayer bad boy going for him. Really loved his character and hope to see more of him in the future.

Aiofe was only part of the lead characters. The other being Arthur and we meet Arthur first. This is the part that wasn't clicking for me. I'm not sure if it was that I never really got into historical things (like the knights of the round table) or if it was just the story hadn't picked up enough pace for me yet. Also for some reason I kept picture Arthur as some old, scruffy king... not sure why. That being said, when we meet Aiofe everything started to quickly pick up for me. Aiofe is beautiful and strong. I love her strength and her fight. With the romance, there was definitely an instant spark with Arthur and Aiofe and I do like them together. However, I felt there was no build up or development in their relationship. It all seemed very rushed, yet I did like the sexy chemistry of them.

Moving on, the writing in the story is done very well and I commend Samantha for weaving the two worlds together so well. Plus her idea of raising knights from the dead was super creative, I really liked it. I will admit though, as I said when I talked about Arthur, I had a hard time getting into this one. For some reason the beginning I guess wasn't what I expected? It took me about half way through the book to really get into it and want to keep flipping the pages. Now remember, that is just my opinion... Everyone's is different! That being said the last about 30% of the book was absolutely awesome. Lots of action, secrets, sacrifices and the epilogue was a killer! It definitely made me want the second book ASAP! Because, with an ending like that all that pops in my head is "heartbreak"!

- If you could be any Disney Princess, which would you be?

Giselle from Enchanted. I liked how wide-eyed and cheery she always was. Plus she has James Marsden AND Patrick Dempsey after her. Ha ha ha... Oh, and I'll say Cinderella just because she was my daughter's favorite princess for years.

- Where is your favorite place to take a vacation?

Hawaii! I NEED to go back. It's been 10+ years! My husband and I were married on Maui. :)

- What is your favorite book you've read so far this year?

Oh wow, that's a tough one. I haven't had much time to read lately because I've been writing so much!

- What is your favorite quote/lyrics?

I have a playlist that I listened to when I wrote TEMPTING CAMERON and there are quite a few songs on it that have the best. Lyrics. Ever. A favorite is the song Spinning by Zero 7 (I have mad love for Zero 7 and Sia). The song fits brooding Cam perfectly. Sample of lyrics:

Was it loneliness that brought you here
Broken and weak
Was it tiredness that made you sleep
Have you lost your will to speak

- What are three things you have in your purse right now?

Chapstick
Daughter's hairband
Loose change that makes me nuts

- If you could have any super power, what would it be?

Teleportation! I think that would be the coolest thing EVER. Just hit a button and bam, you're where you want to be.

Lightning Round!

- Tattoos or Piercings? Tattoos... ;)
- Silence or Noise? Noise
- Lips or Eyes? Eyes (OMG that was a tough one I wanna say both!)
- Paranormal or Contemporary? Contemporary!
- Chinese food or Mexican food? Chinese food mmmm....

Thoughts: With a sexy successful brooding fella, a tragic event, and a super sweet romance... how can you not love Tempting Cameron? There's a few things that always make me love a book and with Tempting Cameron some of my favorite aspects are there. I always love a main character with a huge heart and a brooding sexy man is always a must. Also, I always love when family plays a decent role in the story, because family means so much to me. One final thing I always love is tragic, dark events and betrayals. In some way, Tempting Cameron has all of those and Karen mixed them together in a super sweet way.

With our characters, I loved that Chloe was described as the "town princess" and how that was she was actually good-hearted versus a snob or some over-confident chick. How Chloe was all good from the inside out, a pretty elementary school teacher, yet she still knows how to have fun. Then there's Cameron... hot name and sexy green eyes alert! Cam, has been running away from his home life and I loved watching him actually finding a reason to stay; finding a reason to actually not be a playboy. Chloe and Cam's relationship is literally a sweet and sexy adventure. One other person I must shout out to is Mac. I absolutely adore Mac and want much, much more of him!

Overall, if you want a book with a super sweet romance with some sexiness thrown in there, a beautiful lake town setting, and a happily ever after with a couple who are meant for each other... definitely give this one a shot!

Cover Reveal: This Is Forever

Did it get you curious? Winter is the very sexy bassist for the band 13 Shades of Red, and his book, THIS IS FOREVER will be releasing December 2013. Wanna see the cover?

Now isn’t that just sexy? From now till December if you check out some of your favorite blogs that are rocking the mini graphic on the side column, we will be giving some teasers, excerpts and interviews about the book, on the 10th of the month.

Believe me; it really is going to be a Long Hard Winter. *wink*

And now… for a sexy sneak peek at THIS IS FOREVER…(Does contain strong language)

Seeing Lola after eight months was a fucking kick in the teeth. She had changed her hair, it was purple with black streaks, and she was wearing one fucker of an outfit. Platform Mary Jane’s, her signature, purple torn fishnet thigh highs with garters that ended in bows with skulls on them, micro mini in black satin with a lace trim. She had tripled up on her belts, her little baby tee molding to her torso like a second skin. It was razor cut in places, showing skin and the purple of her lace bra. Her arms warmers were knitted with little skulls on them. He was pretty sure she wasn’t wearing underwear also, the girl just loved to shock. Dare he think it was for his benefit? He wasn’t sure he even saw her, thinking he was dreaming the perfection before him.

But dreams don’t blow you off… at least his didn’t. His dreams, her especially, blew him. When dreams blew you off, those were called nightmares, and those sucked. Sucked like life was sucking right now. She had walked in with the rest of her band, greeted everyone but him, her gaze lingering a little too long on Colin, Rhys’ little brother, but then moved on as she kissed cheeks and hugged people.

He had to adjust his groin, discreetly of course, when she and Saffron hugged and snuggled. Apparently over the past several months Saffron and Lola had become quite the BFF, with Lola staying at Saffron’s place in New York when she had to go in for several shoots and meetings with her record company. Rhys had teased him about getting face timed and seeing both of them in little booty shorts and white tank tops… but he didn’t think they were that close.

And worse, he didn’t think seeing her all snuggly with Saffron would illicit the images rolling through his head. Not that Saffron wasn’t hot, but he just didn’t dig his best friend’s girl like that.  He grabbed a tootsie pop and unwrapped it, sticking the thick ball into his mouth. He watched her move from person to person, but never to him.

What. The. Fuck.

When everyone sat down, she sat at the other end, didn’t even bother to look at him. He went through dinner in a blur, his anger getting to him more and more. What the fuck was going on? He was beginning to feel like he was invisible. Maybe it was a nightmare?

When she got up and went to the bathroom, he followed, after exchanging a meaningful look with Rhys.

“So you’re just not going to say anything to me?” he said as he caught her coming out of the bathroom.

She looked at him and then sighed. “I didn’t want a public thing to happen.”

Public thing?

She looked him up and down. “I don’t know if I’m ready to say hi like I want to.”

Winter rolled his eyes. “So you can wrap yourself around Saffron, eye Colin up like he’s a steak, which by the way he’s not even eighteen yet, eww,” he ticked off on his fingers, “Yet you can’t even just turn and wave at me?”

Lola shook her head. “It’s not what I wanted. And Colin is going to be very popular…”

“You just didn’t wanna talk to me at all?” he asked, thoroughly confused. She was the one that pushed for the tour, and by all accounts she didn’t have issue with their past. It was what gave him hope.

She moved closer and shook her head. “That’s not it.”

“Then what’s it?” he bit out, his hands clenched at his sides. Gods, only she could infuriate him like this. Fuck she smelled good. All honey and warm clover… no one smelled like Lola.

Her voice lowered. “Do you like my outfit Winter?”

He growled. Fuck yes he liked her outfit. Loved. Wanted it crumpled on the floor of his bedroom. Wanted to peel it from her slowly, kissing every inch of skin he exposed.

She reached for him, her fingers tugging him closer by the belt loops of his jeans. “Good. You’re supposed to. You don’t get anything from me Winter Tulane. No greeting, no, little wave, no explanation. Eat your heart out baby.”

She got closer, her lips just against his, a slight almost imperceptible move of the hoop through the middle of his lip and then she was gone, back towards the party, her ass shaking with a sashay that had blood rushing from every place in his body to his cock. Fuck. What the hell was going on?

“Hey Lo,” he called after her. She gave him the finger and kept walking.

Game on. Game fucking on, he thought as he followed her back into the room. Confusion didn’t even convey how he was feeling about what happened, but holy fuck the signals she was throwing off were so convoluted he didn’t know if he should fist pump for getting her so close to him or brood over her words.
