Cover Reveal: The Summer I Became A Nerd

The Summer I Became A Nerd
By: Leah Rae Miller
Releasing 2013

Synopsis: On the outside, seventeen-year-old Madelyne Summers looks like your typical blond cheerleader—perky, popular, and dating the star quarterback. But inside, Maddie spends more time agonizing over what will happen in the next issue of her favorite comic book than planning pep rallies with her squad. That she’s a nerd hiding in a popular girl's body isn’t just unknown, it's anti-known. And she needs to keep it that way.

Summer is the only time Maddie lets her real self out to play, but when she slips up and the adorkable guy behind the local comic shop’s counter uncovers her secret, she’s busted. Before she can shake a pom-pom, Maddie’s whisked into Logan’s world of comic conventions, live-action role-playing, and first-person-shooter video games. And she loves it. But the more she denies who she really is, the deeper her lies become…and the more she risks losing Logan forever.

- The Book -

Synopsis: Vi knows the Rule: Girls don't walk with boys, and they never even think about kissing them. But no one makes Vi want to break the Rules more than Zenn...and since the Thinkers have chosen him as Vi's future match, how much trouble can one kiss cause? The Thinkers may have brainwashed the rest of the population, but Vi is determined to think for herself.

But the Thinkers are unusually persuasive, and they're set on convincing Vi to become one of them...starting by brainwashing Zenn. Vi can't leave Zenn in the Thinkers' hands, but she's wary of joining the rebellion, especially since that means teaming up with Jag. Jag is egotistical, charismatic, and dangerous--everything Zenn's not. Vi can't quite trust Jag and can't quite resist him, but she also can't give up on Zenn.

This is a game of control or be controlled. And Vi has no choice but to play.

- Review -

Freighting and thrilling, Elana weaves a story of mind control, betrayal, and impossible decisions. Possession was definitely quite scary in its own way. The world of the story is divided into so many towns of people who believe certain things, but they all connect one way... there are people among them who can control you by their minds or voices. The "good" citizens don't even know they are being controlled and I think that's what made me look at this book and go 'could you imagine living in a world like that'? I know I wouldn't want to. I wouldn't want to live in a world where I could never decipher if my thoughts were my own or not.

Our characters are all so very complex. There's so many secrets each of them hides and so many twists and betrayals you may not see coming. Personally for myself, there were a lot of times where I could guess what was coming though or times where I wanted to yell at certain characters and tell them to just choose one thing and stick with it. Our protagonist Violet is so innocent to start, so unaware of the world around her and I loved watching her discover just how powerful she actually is and that she has always acted out for a reason. Along with her are two sexy fellas... Zenn and Jag. Firstly, I love both of their names! Also, I really loved and wanted kick both of them for different reasons. Zenn was one of the roller coaster boys for me. I didn't like him at first... then I grew to love him and feel sorry for him and then towards the end it went to back to not sure if I loved or hated him. On the other side is Jag. If I had to pick a team, it would be Team Jag but despite his adorableness and hero traits there were so many times I wanted to kick him in the shins. Ultimately though, I love his and Vi's relationship.

Overall, I thought Possession was quite unique and I was surprised at how many twists Elana actually threw into the story. That being said, there were a lot of times where I felt the scenes were rushed or I wasn't quite understanding how one moment one thing was happening and the next it was something else. These were minor things for me though did not stop my love for the story. I honestly did love it and the unique concept of its mind control. This story had me turning the pages so quickly because I needed to know what happened next. Elana definitely has a way to make your emotions go all over the place through her characters and I commend her for it. Definitely cannot wait to read the next one!

Expected publication: December 18th 2012

SOMETHING DARKER (book one of the Inferii Dii)

The one thing Syrus Alcot, the God of Death Osiris in the Egyptian Pantheon, wants in all the worlds is the woman he loved and lost returned to him. When he gave up his powers, and freedom for a life of service he was promised her return. That was over one thousand years ago. A member of a team of dark gods charged with keeping humanity safe, he leads a loveless existence in New York City, searching for the one thing that could bring his wife back to him, a lapis scarab that was lost to him ages before.

Gwen Stapleton, a mild mannered librarian, is unaware that she holds the key to not only Syrus’ happiness, but her own. Seemingly stuck in a hopeless relationship with a man she doesn’t love, she has no idea that a chance meeting in Alphabet City will start a landslide to her heart’s content. Because Gwen is the keeper of the scarab, and is everything Syrus has ever wanted… and hes not the only one.

An Ancient evil is waking, and its servants will stop at nothing to see it seize its rightful place as the new pantheon of earth. And in order for Syrus and his team to save the world, Gwen is going to have to accept him, and show that love does make all the difference.

Flawed by: Kate Avelynn

Synopsis: Sarah O’Brien is alive because of the pact she and her brother made twelve years ago — James will protect her from their violent father if she promises to never leave him. For years, she’s watched James destroy his life to save hers. If all he asks for in return is her affection, she’ll give it freely.

Until, with a tiny kiss and a broken mind, he asks for more than she can give.

Sam Donavon has been James’ best friend — and the boy Sarah’s had a crush on — for as long as she can remember. As their forbidden relationship deepens, Sarah knows she’s in trouble. Quiet, serious Sam has decided he’s going to save her. Neither of them realize James is far more unstable than her father ever was, or that he’s not about to let Sarah forget her half of the pact . . .

Thoughts: This book hurts my heart. It hurts my soul. Shattered me into a million pieces. These words... Like razor blades across my skin. It's beautiful and intense and earth shattering. Flawed takes love and twists it into something deadly.

When you're put in an impossible choice, is there really a right answer? I have been there. Stuck between two heartbreaking decisions except there was no right choice. They are both right and they are both wrong... it always comes down to hurting yourself or the other person. But with impossible choices, unfortunately I think you always lose regardless. You always hurt something with in yourself. Sarah sits in that spot. Shes so conflicted through out the whole book... family over love, love over family... love love love. She's been over protected her entire life, scarred, hurt, yet she still has love in her heart. I felt so deeply for her. And, I don't envy her.

Then there is James. James is one of those characters that you either see the dark side or you see deeper inside and see that within that darkness is a boy who has been broken. Who's been strengthened to be overprotective. Who's had to turn himself into this twisted soul because he thought he was doing what he had to do for Sarah. James is the bad guy in this story, yet I somehow don't see him that way. He's good-looking, hard working, and protects the hell out of his sister. Some where along the line he just took it too far... too far to rein all that darkness back in. I still loved him and my heart still broke for him every time he shed a tear. Every time he was afraid to lose something too important to him. I mean, how do you just suddenly stop protecting the thing that means the most to you in the world? I know there is good in James. Unfortunately, he was just too far gone and I would have done anything to save him. He's that type of boy.

Sam. He tore my world apart. Sam is Sarah's hero. I could never get enough of Sam. When Sam was filling the pages, my mind was completely attached. He's sweet. He's a family guy. He's smart. He's sexy as hell. He's protective. He's artistic. He's beautiful... inside and out. He has the type of love that could wrap you up in warmth from the inside out. He would do anything for Sarah... he does do anything for Sarah. "When are you going to get that you are everything?" (Pg 302). Sam was everything to me as the reader. I loved him so much, and his love completely captured my heart and then drug me down into that black hole of hurt with the bittersweet ending. "I figured out pretty quickly that this is a forever thing for me." (Pg 302)

I could talk about this book forever. It will never leave me. I don't want it to. I want to look at that gorgeously haunting cover and know the story that lies within that broken weed.

I devoured Flawed. I couldn't help it. I ate it's three hundred and some pages like it was fifty. It pulled me in piece by piece until it had all of me and then it blew me wide open shattering every piece of my carefully held in emotion. Yes, I cried. I held everything in. Each tension, each betrayal, each lie, each abuse, each torture, each kiss... Slowly building inside of me until that last chapter. When I found out that there was no going back, I couldn't hold it back anymore.

Kate outdid herself with this story. It's heart-achingly beautiful and abusive. I fell in love with it and then it broke my heart. I've waited for this book for so long, it was my most anticipated book of this year and I can happily (with a broken heart) say that it did not disappoint me at all. It held up to every standard I put it to. It hit every bar I raised it to. I wanted some sick, twisted, intense book... and I got just that. I wanted to love a book that fit into that dark place in my soul... Flawed is that book.

Blog Tour: Hellsbane

________

- The Book -

Synopsis: Twenty-three-year-old Emma Jane Hellsbane just found out she’s not human—or, at least, not only human. She’s half angel, too, and now Heaven’s got a job for her: round up all the Fallen angels and their red-skinned, horned devil-demon minions and boot their butts back into the abyss. Only problem? The demons and their Fallen masters fight back and they don’t fight fair.

Luckily for Emma, she can put a stop to the constant threat of having her head hacked off if she figures out which Fallen angel is her father—and then kill him before he kills her. Of course, in the meantime, she’ll have to avoid accidentally seducing her angelic mentor, help an old friend conquer his own Fallen sperm donor, and basically save the world from a cataclysmic divine smack down.

No one said being Heaven’s bounty hunter would be easy. But with a name like Hellsbane, Emma Jane was born for the job.

***

ALSO! The prequel Commencement is free right now! So make sure you run over and grab that!

Synopsis: Hell hath no fury like a woman’s scorn for frat guys…

Emma Jane Hellsbane knows something evil is worming its way through her college campus—she can feel it. Literally. Her freakish ability to feel other people’s emotions as though they were her own has always been monumentally awkward, and it’s easier for her to just pretend it doesn’t exist. But this time her paranormal ability just might help her save lives.

Emma Jane’s fairly certain that whatever the hateful, egomaniacal, Godlike thing is, it’s set up shop inside her boyfriend, the frat boy/soccer star Justin. And if she doesn’t figure a way to get it out of him soon, Justin’s soul will be the appetizer to the main course—the whole student body. Problem is, the big baddy is granting sinister wishes, and with each one the risks grow higher and the phrase Be careful what you wish for becomes a real-life dire warning. Of course for Emma, what feels like it could be the end is in fact just the beginning…

Writing was never a foregone conclusion for me. I once had dreams of being a psychologist, a pediatrician, a school teacher, a photojournalist, a bartender, and/or an EMT. And then I met my husband and my world came into focus. Being wife and mother are my highest priorities and greatest joy. But escaping to the fanciful, sexy worlds twirling through my mind is an absolute necessity. Putting those worlds, and the cornucopia of characters that people them, on paper is just plain fun.

Paige lives in Ohio, with her husband, three daughters, three dogs, three cats, a parakeet and a bearded dragon named Rexy, in an ever shrinking house. When she’s not writing she can be found doing the mom thing with a book in one hand and a notepad and pen in the other. Ideas come without warning and the best way to stimulate your imagination is to enjoy the imagination of someone else.

__________

- Q and A With Paige -

Lips or Eyes?
Eyes! It’s so true that they’re the windows to the soul.

Silence or Noise?
Noise. Too much silence and my brain starts making up sounds on its own. It can get kinda scary…and weird.

Which book to movie adaptation are you more excited for? City of Bones or Beautiful Creatures?
Beautiful Creatures. I saw the trailer for this and wanted to see it before I even realized what it was based on. It looks AWESOME!!

Contemporary or Paranormal?
Paranormal! I NEED the paranormal just to keep me sane. Is that weird?

Donut or Bagel?
Donut! I like my sugar.

Being Invisible or being able to fly?
Wow…that’s hard. Flying would be way cool, but I guess if I had to pick, I’d go Invisible—just because I’m extremely paranoid and it’d be fun to hear what people are saying when they think no one else is listening. Although, flying while invisible would be AWESOME…and maybe a little dangerous.

SS: isn't it a hard choice?! I'd pick invisible too though.

Windows or Mac?
I’m a Windows girl.

Brooding Bad Boys or Sexy and Sweet Good Guys?
Sexy and Sweet Good Guys. I’d end up smacking the Brooding out of the Bad Boy. “I got my own problems, buddy. Suck it up.”

SS: Sexy and sweet guys tend to be my favorite too. I don't always like the brooding bad boys, but I do like the broken boys.

Coffee or Tea?
COFFEE!!!! I may have a slight caffeine dependency.

Ebook or Hard Copy?
Hard Copy, though I LOVE my eReader, so I normally do both.

Anything extra you'd like to tell us? :)
I hope everyone will give my new urban fantasy series a try! The prequel novella, COMMENCEMENT is free for download at Books on Board and Kobo. It should be going free on Amazon soon too! It’s a fun, kinda creepy, read and sets the tone for the whole HELLSBANE series. So give it a try…I mean, it’s FREE! Seriously, what’ya got to lose?

Thanks so much for having me, Jena!! This was fun! LOL

SS: Thanks for stopping by Paige!!! :)))

- Review -

Thoughts: I can never get enough of Brazen books, they always make m emotions go up and down. The books refuse to let me put them down till I finish. And, they're always so sexy and such a brilliant story. One Night With A Hero is no different. I love everything about it. It's just like a very sexy fairy tale.

Joss Daniels meets the sexy Brady Scott one night at the park. The attraction to each other is impossible to ignore... yet neither of them want a relation. So they give it a one night offer... one night of sex and then that's it. Then Brady comes to find the sexy woman he had sex with one night is his next door neighbor, and trying to ignore each other is out of the question. But, the unexpected happens... Joss is pregnant. Brady's hard past with his father causes him to reject Joss and Joss, due to her past, will not let this child grow up alone so she keeps it. Both of them will have to overcome the hurt and rejection if they want to create a future together.

The chemistry between these two characters literally explodes off the page. It's so natural between the two of them... nothing is forced and the love is there clear as day. I love watching two people who struggle with their past come together to help each other over come those insecurities together. And, that's exactly what Brady and Joss do, they show each other that the past doesn't reflect who they will become if they just be the good, loving people they want to be. There's so many cute moments between them too... which is can only be described as true love, like the Halloween gifts, the Santa Claus and my favorite "bad ass with a waffle iron", ha! It's impossible not to love these two together.

If you like Brazen books and haven't read this one yet... well what the heck are you waiting for? If you haven't read any Brazen books yet... first you should start. Second, this is a fantastic seductive fairy tale that I think any one would enjoy. Definitely worth a read!

Stephanie decided to become an English teacher and completed her B.A. at The Pennsylvania State University. While teaching, she later went on to get her Master’s in writing from The Johns Hopkins University. She completed her very first manuscript during her graduate studies, and by the end of the program, she had completed two more.

Stephanie is quick to tell anyone that she’s a born and raised Philadelphian, and her heart will always belong there. She moved to Baltimore with her husband, and they’ve been living there for the last five years with their doggie, Sailor, and their rabbit, Buns (aka “T Sizzle).

"In order to stay prepared, we will be introducing live rounds to the training games."

The collective breathing in the room stops.

Did I hear her correctly?

"We will be using Citizen convicts as our targets, and they will be armed." The Keeper pauses as the tension in the air becomes crisper and more taut. "We have, up until this point kept our Seers under protection for the good of the City. But what good is it if we are protecting Seers who aren't strong enough to protect in return? You need to be able to take a life. To kill. To protect the Citizens."

"Is she serious?" Connie whispers, a waver in her words.

"It is a new day! We are at war, and now, more than ever, we need to be strong! We will begin to use live rounds tomorrow. Get a good night's rest, and remember, it is for the good of the City." The microphone clicks off and the Meeting Room silent.

The wave of whispers starts somewhere in the back, and by the time it reaches us, everyone is talking. Connie is freaking out and has reduced herself to tears. Mae is trying to keep Connie calm with reassuring pats on the back. Gabe reaches for my hand and when he find it, he holds it without saying a word about anything.

Dark. Unknowing. Trained killers and it's a kill or be killed world. Luminosity literally sucked me into its darkness right from the first line. It has such a vivid opening that instantly pulls you into this terrifying story and I loved every dark and twisted moment of it.
