- My Review -

At first I admit, I wasn't really sure where this book was going to take me. Then we meet Nick, and story completely takes off from there and I could not put it down. I finished this book in hours. It's mysterious, thrilling, and the whole time I just kept wanting to turn the pages so I could solve the mystery of Nick. With this being Ella James' first work I've read, I am blown away and I cannot wait to get my hands on book two!

Synopsis: Milo Mitchell's life used to be charmed, but that was before her family dissolved, she went a little crazy, and her best friends started acting more like strangers. Spending Saturday morning in a treehouse with a stun gun for company and a herd of deer for friends is the only exciting thing in her life...until she shoots a fawn and finds her dart stuck in a guy.

Afraid her dart caused his amnesia, Milo takes him in, names him Nick, and vows to help him solve his mystery. Thoughts: At first I admit, I wasn't really sure where this book was going to take me.

We start off with Milo Mitchell who after losing her father, continues his work of hanging in her tree house and tagging deer. Then one day her dart hit homes, except instead of a deer on the ground there's a gorgeous boy about her age. Nick wakes up but appears to have no memory of who he is. Yet he remembers the world and how things work and most important... he remembers Milo. Soon the power in the whole town shuts down and the Department of Defense starts knocking at Milo's door. Nick and Milo soon find their selves in trouble they couldn't have imagined.

With our two main characters, Milo is just your average, beautiful girl who has her own hobbies yet once she meets Nick she becomes so strong for him. She's always there for him and wanting to help him... I loved watching her have that heart of gold with him and never giving up. Then on the other side is Nick. He intrigued me so much. First he is sexy as hell, then he shows up in the book wearing a tux, and after that he can ride a motorcycle like a stunt double! Plus, while he's trying to figure out the mystery of himself he's so sweet and innocent... I just wanted to kiss him! Nick is definitely a character worth falling for, and by the end you cannot help but love him!

The action in Here picks up so quick and takes you on a ride until the end. I literally and dying for the next book with the way Here ended! It's one of those books that just keeps building up and getting better and better than then BAM you hit the end and you just want more. I am so excited to see where Ella takes this series and I cannot wait to read more by her!

Jane began writing romantic fantasy novellas at the age of 12 in the wayback of a Plymouth Fury—which, as far as she recalls, never killed anyone…who didn’t have it coming. Born in Billings, Montana, she was soon whisked away to Tucson, Arizona where she spent most of her childhood ruining her eyes reading romance novels in the sun and watching Star Trek marathons in the dark. Although she was repeatedly urged to learn a marketable skill in case she couldn’t find a man to marry her, she received a B.A. in Creative Writing anyway from the University of Arizona.

She now lives in San Francisco with her son Samson, two feline overlords who are convinced she is constantly plotting their death, and a cockatiel named Imhotep who punishes her for sins in a past life (and whom she frequently imagines tastily smoked, dried, and splayed on a stick like omul fished from Lake Baikal).

Her pen name was inspired by the twin sister of Philip K. Dick who died shortly after their birth, and by whom he felt haunted until the end of his life.

- This or That with Jane -

Coffee or Tea?

I like both at different times, but tea, I have a much more complex relationship with. I can’t handle caffeine, so I drink decaf coffee, but decaf tea is just…not tea. So I drink the real stuff a few times a week and then suffer through the effects. I love the ritual of tea, whether it’s English High Tea or a Chinese gaiwan ceremony, and I love all the different varieties. My favorite everyday tea is a green jasmine pearl.

SS: I love both as well. But, unfortunately I'm so much of a coffee addict that I get those darn headaches if I don't drink it often. ...I need to ween off of it!

Lips or Eyes?

Eyes. Unless the lips are something really extraordinary. And then I’m toast.

Free Starbucks for a year or free iTunes for a year?

Starbucks. I so don’t need free Starbucks and neither does my waistline, but I want it.

Silence or Noise?

Silence. For the love of everything holy. I am a freak about noise.

SS: Everyone seems to pick silence when I ask this question, but I'm the complete opposite. I'd rather be surrounded by noise. I cannot do anything without music.

Twitter or Facebook?

If I had to pick one of them, Twitter, definitely. I like being able to leap into a conversation when I catch something going by or just send out a one-liner whenever and know that if I have good news or bad news to share, someone will always respond. I always feel like I actually have to have something to say if I post on Facebook. Not that that stops anyone else. ;)

Contemporary or Paranormal?

Paranormal, hands down. As another author once said to me, “I have no problem suspending disbelief for immortal creatures, but I just can’t get myself to believe that billionaire would fall for that secretary.” Or something to that effect.

Day time or Night time?

Night time. (It’s quiet.) Although I’d be happy if there were twice as many hours in a day.

Being Invisible or being able to fly?

How about being able to fly invisibly? I’ve always worried about being seen flying for some reason. LOL

Polk-a-dots or Stripes?

Hmm. Today, polka dots.

Ebook or Hard Copy?

Hard copy. Although I love the convenience of ebooks and I’d never give up my Nook, there’s something impersonal about them. I have love affairs with books. I think I’m only capable of a one-night stand with an ebook.

Anything extra you'd like to tell us?

Other than the fact that I’m currently being held hostage by two cats who force me to cater to their every whim, I think I’m good. Send catnip.

SS: I have two baby girls that I cater to their every whim as well! Ohhh how we love our pets :).

Thanks for having me today on Shortie Says!

SS: Thanks for stopping by, Jane! :)

**

Synopsis: Once Nara combines her prophetic ability with Ethan’s power to outsmart Fate at his own deadly cat-and-mouse game, she’s more determined than ever to help Ethan learn the meaning behind the raven sword tattoo that suddenly appeared on his back after their confrontation with Fate.
During her quest to uncover the tattoo’s secrets, Nara enlists the help of some new friends and discovers her own surprising connection to Ethan.

While Nara digs deeper into the mystery, her desire for answers leads her down a dangerous path full of powerful and ruthless enemies. Swept into an age-old battle, Nara quickly learns that keeping one’s enemies close can be a necessary evil, making an intangible enemy she can control far more preferable to the human enemies she can’t.

________

- How Dreams Inspire -
Guest Post

HOW DREAMS INSPIRE A few years ago, I had a dream experience that was definitely inspiring! My dreams don't normally play like a movie, but this one certainly did! I dreamed I was kidnapped by a dark-haired guy carrying a gun. He was brusk and strong and somewhat cold and calculated in his mannerisms. Like a trained assassin. He also happened to be a vampire. He dragged me behind him as we were chased by some unknown men through buildings. Finally we ended up in some kind of warehouse with widows along one side that overlooked the Hudson river. The vampire tried to talk to some guy there...I don't remember what it was about, but those chasing us were coming up the stairs and we were going to be trapped. In my dream, I wasn't afraid of the vampire, but I also didn't trust his motives. I mean, he'd kidnapped me! But then the vampire shot at the window and before I knew what he was doing, he threw me through it. I burst through the glass and fell straight toward the river.

And that's when I woke up!

Um, yeah...if you were a writer and you dreamed something so out-there and crazy, what would you do with it? Of course, I began to take furious notes, afraid I'd forget what I'd dreamed. And once I'd jotted down that scene, I started to brainstorm an entire story around it. That turned into the first book in my SCIONS paranormal romance trilogy, SCIONS:RESURRECTION. :)

Now what does all this have to do with my YA series BRIGHTEST KIND OF DARKNESS. Well, while I was brainstorming for ideas for my YA, I thought about how I'd come up with my Scions book idea; I'd dreamed about a moment in a person's life, and then I'd made it happen, well, at least for my character in her story. So what about the girl in my YA? What if she had dreams too, but instead she always dreamed her the entire next day? And with that concept in mind, I created characters to play off that idea and way beyond it.

As you see, dreams can be inspiring in many forms! :)

**

SS: I love the fact that dreams inspire you. Because I kind of do the same thing. I imagine something or dream something then bam... I write about it! Plus I love dreams... they really are magical, I think at least. Dang I sound like a sap! But any who, I wouldn't want your kind of dreams... that one above is scary! haha

_____________

- Jus's Dream Cast -

I work best when I’ve got a picture in my head. Characters, for me, need faces. When I started TOUCH, my dream cast kind of planned itself out.

Dez Cross – Dez has been Avril Lavigne in my mind from day one. At the moment I’m kind of torn. I love Avril for Dez, but the chick on the cover of Toxic is pretty perfect, too! What do you think?

Kale – Kale was—before Mr. Hotness appeared on the cover—Ben Barnes in my head. Picture that boy with bright blue eyes and midnight hair… *wipes drool*

Alex Mojourn – This one was the hardest. I know exactly how Alex looks. He’s kind of like a young Spider One (which is what caught Dez’s eye in the first place). I think with the blond hair and, of course, Fred, Xavier Samuel would make a good Alex.

Ginger Midlen – Ginger was Betty White right from the first page she popped up on. She wasn’t a planned character, but when she sprang onto the page during that first Six rave…well…It was Betty all the way.

Sueshanna Odel – Next to Alex, Sue was the hardest. It wasn’t really until I was working on TOXIC that she took a more solid form in my head. I think Kate Beckinsale makes a pretty awesome Sue.

Daxil Fleet – Dax. Dax, Dax, Dax. Some of you know I have a thing for Dax—and it only intensified during Toxic. When you read it, you’ll know what I mean ;) I think Wentworth Miller would make a pretty badass Dax!

So what do you guys think? Agree? Disagree? Have other ideas? I’d love to hear them! :D

SS: OH MY GOD. KALE. ALEX. DEZ. DAX.... DAX!!!! Hottie hots hottttt people! I love them all so much! Especially DAX. Holy hell sauce. And Avril as Dez is EXACTLY how I imagined her as well.
