Teaser Tuesday

So, I just finished Legend by: Marie Lu and it is still coursing its way through my brain... and I cannot seem to get it out. So this week's teaser will of course be from this brilliant book. If you'd like to read my review on it, you can find that HERE.

"Finally, when the sunset bathes my apartment in orange and gold, I break out of my trance. I clean up the shining shards of broken glass. I dress in my full uniform. I make sure my hair is pulled back flawlessly, that my face is clean and calm and devoid of emotion. In the mirror, I look the same. But I am a different person inside. I'm a prodigy who knows the truth, and I know exactly what I'm going to do."
- ARC pg 247

I believe this is the exact moment I fell in love with June. Something about this passage, just gets to me. It's like finally realizing what's inside yourself and who you need to be. These words have strength in them, and I love them.

What are your thoughts? Excited for this one? :)

Legend by: Marie Lu

Synopsis: What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic's wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic's highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country's most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem.

From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths - until the day June's brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family's survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias's death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets.

Thoughts: Legend entrapped me within its pages the moment I started reading. I literally started and finished this book in one night. With its constant thrills, suspenseful moments, and heart-breaking truths, Legend without a doubt has become of my favorite dystopian books of the year.

We start off with Day. He's the most wanted criminal in the Republic, and when he's suspected of killing a military captain they send their newest recruit, June, to find him. June is a military prodigy and has just lost her brother, Metias, so she accepts the mission and seeks revenge. After discovering shocking truths, these two fifteen year olds quickly discover that joining forces may be their only way of surviving the harsh reality of their world.

I absolutely grew to love both of these main characters. My heart ached for both them so many times. I admit at first, I didn't think I could forgive June, but then we get to watch her change and grow into the prodigy she truly is and should be. The prodigy her brother would have been proud of. Then there is Day. He's made out as this highly wanted criminal when in reality he's nothing of the sort. He's been made to be that way by force and deep inside is a kind hearted, sacrificing, beautiful boy. Their story has completely soaked through my bones and I cannot wait to read more about them.

Also, even though I have nothing against books steered by romance, I have to completely applaud Legend for not doing this. Legend is strictly a book on thrilling truths and shocking moments. A book on doing what's right, on being yourself and believing your full potential. A book on a realistic cruel reality that is beautifully weaved.

Legend is insanely engrossing and heart-shattering. This books packs more punch than a UFC fighter, and continuously hits you in your mind, gut, and heart. It's completely thrilling and will keep on the edge of your seat with every word and every page. It's frightening to think that our world could end up like this... it's insanely realistic. There were so many parts where I felt as if my heart stopped, so many times when I'd say to myself "she wouldn't...." and yet every time they did. Legend is beautifully written and terribly exciting in a spine-chilling way. Plus the cover, is simply perfect for the story. I simply could not put this book down, and you would all be fools to not buy this amazing story.

PS. Whyyyy did she have to mention Ollie at the end?!!? My heart broke.

By: Rachel Vincent

Expected Release Date: January 1st, 2012

Synopsis: Don't Close Your Eyes.

Not after all the work she's put into cultivating the right look, and friends, and reputation. But then, Sophie sees something so frightening she lets out a blood-curdling scream—and finds herself stuck in a bizarre parallel world where nothing is safe and deadly creatures lurk just out of sight, waiting for her to close her eyes and sleep...forever.

Could this world be real? Or does insanity run in the family...?

HOLY SMOKES. I am in love with Rachel and her books. I love her Soul Screamers series to death (ha ha ha) and her Unbound series. I think this cover is absolutely GORGEOUS. And, I cannot wait to read it!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! :)

A lot of people are putting together cute posts in which they lists things they're thankful for, but honestly (and unfortunately) I just don't seem to have the time to do that this year.

I'm working my entire Thanksgiving break. Including 10-4pm today.
11:30pm tonight - 6am tomorrow morning.
I'm working all day Saturday and all day Sunday.

But, I'm not really complaining. Honestly, I'm thankful I have two jobs and am able to make all the extra money that I truly need.

I'm about to go get ready for work.

But, I just wanted to hop on real quick and tell all you followers than I'm thankful for everything you do. My blog wouldn't be anything with out you. Without your comments, your pages views, your lovely insight, and helpfulness... I'd be no where. Honestly, the blog sphere has given me a new home that I desperately needed. And I totally thank you all for that.

Especially all the new best friends I've gotten out of this. I'm thankful for you!

One in particular I just MUST mention... is Brooke (Brooke-Reports). I don't know where I'd be without her. Even though we live in completely different states, she has become one of my bestest friends ever. I tell her more than I tell the people who surround me on a daily basis. She's constantly making me laugh, and wtf would I do without our BOY chats?! I'm so thankful that we stalked each other's goodreads pages and met. :)

And overall, I'm just thankful for being here today. For having what I have and the people who are around me. I'm thankful for the person I've become because I like her a lot. So thank you to everything and everyone who made me who I am today. I love my family, my friends, my boy, my animals, my books, authors, the blogsphere, music, art and everything in between. I'm thankful for it all.

And a quick side note - one time on an interview I was asked "Do you consider yourself lucky?" and I had to stop and think, but I said yes. Not in the literal sense that I win every lottery ticket I buy. But, I see myself as extremely lucky. I have a car to drive, a roof to live under, food to eat, a family who I absolutely adore, time and money to attend college, a boyfriend who loves me, animals who I can't live without, books that make me happy, friends who are there for me.... I have things that many of us take for granted so yeah, I consider myself lucky.

I hope you all have amazing day, because you deserve it. :)

Happy Thanksgiving.

Waiting On Wednesday #15

Title: Falling In Between
Author: Devon Ashley

Expected Release Date: February 14th, 2012
Add it: Goodreads

Synopsis: Finally! A private conversation. And all I had to do was throw myself off a cliff, drown in a pond in my undies and let him put his hands on my breasts to bring me back to life. Yay me…(yeah, that’s sarcasm)

Yep, that pretty much sums up the most craptastic night of Jenna Baker’s life. She drowns after jumping off a cliff, meets a hotty named Chance in the pearlescent in-between and is brought back to life by her soon-to-be boyfriend Robert.

Just when things start to move forward with Robert, the guy she'd been crushing on for a year now, in walks the man of her dreams – literally. Chance suddenly appears in her dream every time she closes her eyes. So it's Robert by day and Chance by night. One in the real world and one in the dream world. What could possibly go wrong?

Absolutely nothing – until she comes face to face with the guy she met in the in-between, and realizes her romantic rendezvous with Chance may be more than just her imagination.

Note: Jenna's coming of age story is a little edgy. There is mild language and some sexual content.

Title: The Fine Art of Truth or Dare
Author: Melissa Jensen

Expected Release Date: February 16th, 2012
Add it: Goodreads

Synopsis: Pretty in Pink meets Anna and the French Kiss in this charming romantic comedy

Ella is nearly invisible at the Willing School, and that's just fine by her. She's got her friends - the fabulous Frankie and their sweet cohort Sadie. She's got her art - and her idol, the unappreciated 19th-century painter Edward Willing. Still, it's hard being a nobody and having a crush on the biggest somebody in the school: Alex Bainbridge. Especially when he is your French tutor, and lessons have started becoming, well, certainly more interesting than French ever has been before. But can the invisible girl actually end up with a happily ever after with the golden boy, when no one even knows they're dating? And is Ella going to dare to be that girl?

Falling In Between - I think it sounds mysterious and seductive! I can't wait to read it!

The Fine Art of Truth or Dare - This totally sounds like one of those cute, fun, quick reads that you cannot put down and I can't wait to read it!

What do you think?

Teaser Tuesday

Since I just read Born Wicked and LOVED it, I figured I'd tease you a little... and I'll make it good. Enjoy :)

His hands are firmer now. One settles at the small of my back, its weight burning through my dress and corset and even my chemise. My skin shivers under his touch. I should back away.
I should but I won't.
I want his hands on me.
If I could see his face, would I have such bold thoughts?
My hands slide up his chest. My mouth reaches for his.
Our noses bump in the dark, but Finn tilts his head sideways until his lips touch mine. They brush back and forth, testing. Tasting. He waits, but I only press closer and he reads that for the invitation it is.

Hehe, what do ya think? Want to read more? Hope you enjoyed!

Born Wicked by: Jessica Spotswood

Synopsis: Everybody knows Cate Cahill and her sisters are eccentric. Too pretty, too reclusive, and far too educated for their own good. But the truth is even worse: they're witches. And if their secret is discovered by the priests of the Brotherhood, it would mean an asylum, a prison ship—or an early grave.

Before her mother died, Cate promised to protect her sisters. But with only six months left to choose between marriage and the Sisterhood, she might not be able to keep her word . . . especially after she finds her mother's diary, uncovering a secret that could spell her family's destruction. Desperate to find alternatives to their fate, Cate starts scouring banned books and questioning rebellious new friends, all while juggling tea parties, shocking marriage proposals, and a forbidden romance with the completely unsuitable Finn Belastra.

If what her mother wrote is true, the Cahill girls aren't safe. Not from the Brotherhood, the Sisterhood—not even from each other.

Thoughts: Born Wicked is a riveting and thrilling story that goes to show, that sometimes you must sacrifice the things you love most to keep the people dearest to you safe.

Born Wicked starts off with Cate Cahill and her two sisters Maura and Tess, who are witches... powerful ones. After their mother dies, Cate is left in charge and soon she discovers a terrible fate for her and her sisters if she doesn't do something about it. Now that Cate is almost 17 though, she must decide between marriage or joining the sisterhood and time is running out. While Cate meets with the delicious Finn and Paul and makes new friends, her biggest worry is trying to keep her sisters safe... at all costs.

Excuse me while I try and close my jaw, I think it's still dropped to the floor. Okay, I'm good now. I admit, I'm not usually huge on the whole set in the 1800s kind-of-book, but Born Wicked blew me away. I was constantly smiling, or "oh my god"-ing, or feeling for the characters while they go through trying to hide what they are. Yes, we know they're witches and what I really liked is that Jessica didn't beat around the bush about them discovering it or anything like that. She swoops right into showing us that they can cast spells and are powerful and well, the sisters know it... even if they must hide it for their own safety. I enjoyed all the struggles and the happy parts. And, the constant pulling of emotions in opposite directions was brilliantly done.

I loved Cate as a protagonist. If this book was already out, I'd put her the YA Heroine Tourney because she is what you would categorize as a strong female lead. Cate has been basically "the mom" to her sisters, and she has and would give up everything for them. She gives up and goes through so many things in order to keep her family safe. Honestly, in the end, I don't know if I would have been as strong as she was. With Cate's family, Maura was the spit-fire of a sister that caused chaos, but you still understand where she's coming from. And then there's Tess. I LOVE TESS. I hope (I'm pretty sure she will) have a big role in upcoming books because Tess is one of those characters you just can't help but love! She's innocent, yet completely strong and I loved her! I must also mention Sachi! I really liked her, and hope we get to see more of her as well!

Now the boys, at first I thought I was going to fall in love with Paul. I mean, he has super light blonde hair and green eyes... that's my instant love combo! And, I admit in the beginning I really liked him, but as the story moved on, I fell for someone else instead. So, um, yeah, Finn... I absolutely LOVE him. Good-looking? YEP. Love books? YEP. Is sweet and caring and adorable? YEP. Would do anything to protect the people he loves? YESSS-SIR-REE! I could go on and on about Finn. The fact that he would do anything for the people he loves and has these big brown loving eyes... you just cannot help but melt into him. And one thing that is mentioned more than once that totally sold me, was the mention of freckles! How freaken sexy and adorable! I was rooting for Finn and Cate the whole time! Totally swoon-worthy boy, for sure!

As I was reading the last few chapters, my heart dropped into my stomach when I realized what was coming, and reading it didn't make it any easier. I'm so heartbroken over that ending! I think I felt exactly how Cate felt, and I am desperately awaiting book2 because I NEED to know what will happen. Born Wicked was written beautifully with a perfect story line. You'll definitely want to grab this one when it hits shelves!

TOUCH Blog Tour

Welcome to my stop on the Entangled Publishing TOUCH Blog Tour! :) I've got an exciting interview with the characters and I may even be giving something away! You'll have to read on to find out! :)

- The Book -

Synopsis: When a strange boy tumbles down a river embankment and lands at her feet, seventeen-year-old adrenaline junkie Deznee Cross snatches the opportunity to piss off her father by bringing the mysterious hottie with ice blue eyes home.

Except there's something off with Kale. He wears her shoes in the shower, is overly fascinated with things like DVDs and vases, and acts like she'll turn to dust if he touches her.

It's not until Dez's father shows up, wielding a gun and knowing more about Kale than he should, that Dez realizes there's more to this boy, and her father's "law firm," than she realized. Kale has been a prisoner of Denazen Corporation -- an organization devoted to collecting "special" kids known as Sixes and using them as weapons -- his entire life.

And, oh yeah, his touch? It kills.

The two team up with a group of rogue Sixes hellbent on taking down Denazen before they're caught and her father discovers the biggest secret of all. A secret Dez has spent her life keeping safe.
A secret Kale will kill to protect.

Isn't that cover GORGEOUS?!! Don't you want to buy it and read it?

- The Author -

I absolutely love Jus Accardo. She's so nice and down to earth, plus she write sexy characters
! ;) OH and I'm hoping she and Jennifer L. Armentrout are coming to PA! Want to know a little more?

Jus Accardo is the author of YA paranormal romance and urban fantasy fiction. A native New Yorker, she lives in the middle of nowhere with her husband, three dogs, and sometimes guard bear, Oswald. Her first book, Touch, is due out in November 2011 from Entangled Publishing. She is represented by Kevan Lyon of Marsal Lyon Literary Agency.

Stalk Her! :)

- Interview with Dez, Kale, and Alex! -

*Q: Dez: You seem to like the party scene, and well making your father angry with your choices. What's so good about it all, does it really help you?

Well, I mean who doesn't love a good rave? As for doing it to make Dad angry--not sure I'd say it helps anything... I mean, yeah. I love pissing him off. There's this vein in his neck that kinda throbs when he's angry. It's major funny. But it's more than that. I do it to get a reaction--any reaction. At least if he's reacting, I know there's a human being inside there, ya know?
*Q: Dez: Can you really skateboard?! Or was that just a neat stunt at the party?

Nah, that was total skill. I could teach you if you wanted? It's a hell of a rush! And guys on with it.
*Q: Dez: You meet this strange, sexy boy who was being chased after and you figured hey, why don't I take him back to my house! What was going through your mind? I mean... he stole your shoes!

Yeah... They were my favorite, too! But I was pissed at my dad--which was nothing unusual. I knew he'd have a coronary if he came home to find some guy in the house. Plus, have you seen Kale? Wouldn't you have taken him home?

*Q: Kale: What was your first impression of Dez? Why did you decide to trust her?

She was... I don't know. It happened fast. And she helped me. No one had ever helped me before. Except Sue. She reminded me a little of Sue.

*Q: Kale: Is there anything you can tell us about Denazen that we don't know? Do you have a favorite part of being a Six?

At Denazen, you don't ask questions. I'm sure there's a great deal we don't know about them. Unlike other Sixes, there's nothing redeeming about my ability. The only good that has ever come of it, is it brought me to Dez.
*Q: Kale: Being finally able to experience the world outside of Denazen, what's your favorite part?

*Grins* Dez. Cheese sticks are nice, too.

*Q: Alex: Were you surprised to see Dez? Did you think you'd ever see her again?

We see each other once in awhile--same scene, you know? We don't talk though, so when she came to the pool hall with that little freak in tow? Yeah, I was a little surprised.

*Q: Alex: But uh, on a side note... you know, I personally think you're pretty sexy, if you're free, I'd love to attend a party with you ;).

*Alex winks* Open arms, baby. Open arms.

*Q: Dez, Kale, and Alex: Anything you'd like to tell us that you haven't got a chance to yet? We're all ears... give us the dirty details ;).

*Dez points at you, then hitches a thumb back at Alex* I do. Do not go to a party with him. Let's forget for a sec that on a good day he smells like a chimney, but he's a dog. He'll be humping poodles as soon as your back is turned.

*Alex folds his arms and shrugs* A dog? Really, Dez? That's the best you've got? At least you can take me somewhere without offing the entire room. Can't say that about Rain Man over there.
*Kale narrows his eyes as his fingers twitch* I don't like you--and neither does she. I wonder if she'd try to stop me from touching you.

*Shortie Says: HAHA I love you all :). And hey Alex, I'll take those open arms any day ;).

- My Review -

Kick-ass, thrilling, fun, and seductive, Jus Accardo created a FANTASTIC story that has everything you could ask for.

Jus Accardo created such a brilliant story with Touch. The story line, the characters, the sexiness, the laughs, the thrills... it's all so brilliantly done. I love the world of "sixes". Honestly, I wish I was one! I don't know what I'd want my power to be. I mean, changing dreams, touch, shape-shifter, reading thoughts, being able to move things, being a healer... there are endless possibilities. The whole story is one thrill after another and the world is modern yet so creative and I loved every single bit of it.

A little update!

Hey everyone, Jena here!

I'm currently at my boy's house and using his computer, so I figured I'd update you all on why my blog seems to be "lacking" right now.

Last Saturday night when I went to turn on my computer well it wouldn't start up, so I ran over to Best Buy and spend $200 for tech support and then left it with Best Buy. I literally just got a call from them, telling me I had 140 viruses. O_O BUT that I will have my computer back tomorrow morning!!!

I AM SO HAPPY. I mean... yes, I have books. Yes, I have an iphone. Yes, I have a TV. But, I couldn't do any blog work. I couldn't sync any of my ebooks to my phone to read. I couldn't blare my music on my itunes. Didn't have any of my saved files or photos. ESSSH.

Anywho, the blog should be back up to normal speed next week! Thank you all for baring with me. I love you all! :)

Destined Blog Tour

Special thanks to Dee from Good Choice Reading!

Welcome to my stop on the Destined tour!! Want to get into the main character's head a little? Well Psyche is here for a guest post! Plus, there's a chance to win an E-book copy of Destined!

- The Book -

Synopsis: When Psyche receives a prophecy gone horribly wrong, she learns that even the most beautiful girl in Greece can have a hideous future. Her fate? Fall in love with the one creature even the gods fear.

As she feels herself slipping closer into the arms of the prophecy, Psyche must choose between the terrifyingly tender touch she feels almost powerless to resist and the one constant she's come to expect out of life: you cannot escape what is destined.

Destined is a fresh and heartachingly romantic retelling of the Cupid and Psyche myth from debut novelist, Jessie Harrell.

- The Author -

Pulled from Jessie's Blog: "That's me. I'm a wife, mom of 2, an appellate attorney and aspiring YA author. My first novel, DESTINED, a retelling of the ancient Greek myth of Cupid & Psyche, comes out November 17th. I've also co-authored a present day paranormal romance, titled BENEATH THE SURFACE, that we hope to find a home for soon."

- Psyche and Jessie Harrell's Guest Post -

Psyche’s guest post [with interjections from, Jessie Harrell, the DESTINED author]

Hi everyone! I’m really excited that I get to do a guest post today. I mean, DESTINED is my story and all, but I don’t get to talk much outside of the book. So it’s exciting to be here and tell you what’s on my mind.

[A word of disclosure from Jessie – if you’re unfamiliar with the Cupid & Psyche myth, Psyche’s rant might not be entirely clear to you. She tends to assume everyone knows her story like they’d lived it.]

*rolls eyes* Anyway, here’s some things I’m just dying to gossip about (and Eros is probably sick of me talking about it already). So here goes – Jessie actually told my story correctly and I can’t believe it took THOUSANDS of years for someone to listen to me long enough to get it right. Can I just tell you how mad Lucius Apuleius’ version made me??? And everyone just swoons over it. Oh, isn’t it romantic how Cupid falls for Psyche even after all the dumb crap she pulls? NO! Ugh.

[Actually, I always thought the myth was pretty romantic myself. But you might have a point.]

Of course I have a point! Ok, for starters, Apuleius couldn’t have made me much dumber. Like pretty girls can only have air between their ears? Don’t even get me started. I may have made a few bad decisions along the way, but it wasn’t out of stupidity – in fact, it was probably the opposite. When you over-think things, situations can go downhill fast.

Then there’s all the magical talking animal and plant stuff Apuleius threw in. Like I couldn’t sort a few grains of rice and stuff without ants doing the work for me? ANTS!!! And then some talking river weeds had to save my butt from being eaten by fire-snorting rams? I don’t think so. I mean, I needed some help, but it wasn’t from inanimate objects. Poor Alexa. She’s been completely cut out of the story all these centuries. I’m so glad she’s finally getting the credit she deserves.

[Side note: Alexa is Psyche’s BFF and also a nymph who stays invisible around Psyche so neither of them will wind up with bad luck. It’s sort of funny watching Psyche talk to air all the time. It makes her look like she’s lost it.]

No more than you look like you’ve lost it talking to me.

And finally, for the record, I only had one sister and Eros did not kill her. I mean, seriously? Would you kill the sister of someone you loved? That doesn’t get you any brownie points. The whole idea is sick and gives Greek tragedy a bad name.

[It is called tragedy for a reason.]

*ignores Jessie.* So as you can see, Apuleius’s version is more fantasy than reality. More Snow White meets Cinderella meets Nightmare Before Christmas than the truth.

[Hence, why it’s call a myth.]

Gah. She thinks she’s so smart. I’m sure Apuleius would’ve had some choice words to describe her back in the day.

Anyway, I hope you like the real version of my story. I can’t wait to share it with you.

Destined by: Jessie Harrell

Synopsis: When Psyche receives a prophecy gone horribly wrong, she learns that even the most beautiful girl in Greece can have a hideous future. Her fate? Fall in love with the one creature even the gods fear.

As she feels herself slipping closer into the arms of the prophecy, Psyche must choose between the terrifyingly tender touch she feels almost powerless to resist and the one constant she's come to expect out of life: you cannot escape what is destined.

Destined is a fresh and heartachingly romantic retelling of the Cupid & Psyche myth from debut novelist, Jessie Harrell.

Thoughts: Destined is a quick-paced, charming read that goes to show you that no matter what, destiny will always put you where you're meant to end up.

We start off Psyche, who has been flowered with gifts and admirers. And soon she find out it's because she has been choosen as the "daughter of Aphrodite". But, when Psyche is told she is to marry Aphrodite's rude son Eros, she resists. Psyche quickly comes to find every thing going horribly wrong. When fate starts to weave its way into Psyche's life she must endure tests she never thought imaginable to end up where she is destined to be.

Destined was a very refreshing read. I haven't read about Cupid before and I enjoyed reading shall we say a "modern" version of it. Psyche is a strong protagonist to go through everything thrown her way and I loved her and Eros's story. We get to see the story told through both of their point of views and I found this pleasantly enjoyable. I especially enjoyed being inside of Eros's head. In the beginning you think he's rude and untouchable, but seeing his thoughts, he has a heart and he is truly caring. I was rooting for Eros's and Psyche the entire story and I loved them both. One other character I loved was Alexa. She is such a great friend and she's full of happy spirit.

Overall Destined is a fun and charming read, especially for those who enjoy Greek Mythology. If you're thinking about picking this one up, I say go for it! I don't think you'll be disappointed.
